If given the chance, Tom Holland says he would love to make a live-action Spider-Verse movie with former Spidey actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Of course, Holland is best known for playing Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing in theAvengersmovies and the solo movieSpider-Man: Homecoming. He will also be donning the red-and-blue tights again this summer for the upcoming sequelSpider-Man: Far from Home. As far as what will then come next for Holland’s Spidey, the actor himself recently revealed he’s totally on board for a Spider-Verse crossover with Maguire and Garfield reprising their versions of the character.
“It would be amazing. It would be really, really cool, and it’s something that the fans really want. So, whether Marvel and Sony decided to do that, it’s up to them. It’s not up to me. I can’t walk in like, ‘Kevin [Feige], this is what we’re doing on the next one!’ But it would be really awesome.”
Tom Hollandfirst appeared as Spider-Man in the MCU movieCaptain America: Civil Warin 2016. This led into his first solo outing in 2017’sSpider-Man: Homecoming, with the sequelFar From Homearriving next month. He was also featured in theAvengersmoviesInfinity WarandEndgame, meaning Holland has now played Peter Parker in five different movies. This officially means Holland has already played Spider-Man in more movies than any other actor in the span of just a few years.
Still, Sony’s original movie trilogy from director Sam Raimi is still fondly remembered by Spidey fans. Of course, Maguire starred in the original 2002 movie alongside Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane. The movie was a tremendous hit, helping to set the stage for the global phenomenon comic book movies are today. He reprised the role in 2004 forSpider-Man 2before concluding his run in 2007 withSpider-Man 3. While Sam Raimi andTobey Maguireboth had plans to keep the story going with a fourth installment, both wound up parting ways with Sony before production could commence.
After seeing the amount of money that can be made withSpider-Manmovies, Sony then made the decision to reboot the franchise with an all-new storyline and lead actor. Rather than picking up whereSpider-Man 3left off, 2012’sThe Amazing Spider-Maninstead re-imagined the web-slinger’s origin story. Co-starring with Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy,Andrew Garfieldtook on the role of Peter Parker. The movie was tremendously profitable at the box office, bringing about the sequelThe Amazing Spider-Man 2in 2014. Like Maguire before him, Garfield then parted ways with Parker when a new version of Spider-Man was introduced for the MCU.
As the animated movieSpider-Man: Into the Spider-Versehas clearly proven, fans are more than willing to accept a crossover with multiple Spider-Men. With this in mind, the concept of the same thing happening with Garfield and Maguire coming into the MCU in a newSpider-Manmovie really doesn’t seem far-fetched.
