Today, Netflix announced that Academy Award and Grammy WinnerJennifer Hudson(Dreamgirls, Sex and The City) will star oppositeAdam Sandlerin the Netflix original filmSandy Wexler. This will beSandler’s third feature film with the streaming service.Hudsonwill play the female lead in the romantic comedy.
The film follows Sandy Wexler (Adam Sandler), a talent manager working in Los Angeles in the 1990s. He diligently represents a group of eccentric clients on the fringes of show business. His single-minded devotion is put to the test when he falls in love with his newest client, Courtney Clarke (Jennifer Hudson), a tremendously talented singer who he discovers at an amusement park.
Sandy WexlerreunitesHappy Madison Productions with director Steve Brill (The Do-Over). Paul Sado, Dan Bulla and Adam Sandler wrote the script. Happy Madison Productions' Adam Sandler and Allen Covert will serve as Producers. Barry Bernardi and Tim Herlihy will serve as Executive Producers.
Sandy Wexler is scheduled to begin shooting in Los Angeles on August 2. The film will premiere in allNetflixterritories in 2017. No further casting has been announced at this time. FollowingSandy Wexler, Adam Sandler has one final movie to make for Netflix under their exclusive agreement. What that movie will be is not yet known.

Though it gained a bit of controversy for its portrayal of Native Americans, it went onto become the most watched original Netflix movie in the streaming service’s history. It debuted July 21, 2025. It was followed this year byThe Do-Over, which pairedSandlerwith old SNL buddyDavid Spade. It debuted over Memorial Day weekend and proved to be another substantial hit for Netflix. Sandy Wexler, taking place in the 90s, will beSandler’s follow-up toThe Wedding Singer, which took place in the 80s. No release date has been announced, but we can expect to see it in in the early half of 2017, with his final Netflix comedy coming later in the year. While the Netflix and Adam Sandler partnership has been quite success, it isn’t known if the two parties will agree to another run of comedy movies following these initial four films.
