Adam Sandlerhas forged himself a successful partnership withNetflix, and that doesn’t appear to be coming to an end any time soon. While the comedy actor has been consistently delivering strong viewership results for the streamer, reviews of his movies havegenerally been more miss than hit, which could be one reason why only one of his Netflix movies has received a sequel – that beingMurder Mystery, which he starred in with Jennifer Aniston. However, that is about to change, as Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos has revealed another of Sandler’s movies is now in line for a follow-up.

During a recent conversation withThe Wrap, Sarandos confirmed that the streamer is planning to develop a sequel to the animated movieLeo, which hit the platform in November 2023 and became the most watched debut of an animated original to ever hit the platform. The film also deliveredsome of the most positive reviewsSandler has received since signing his deal with Netflix. Sarandos said:

Adam Sandler in Uncut Gems

“We’re kicking around Leo 2 right now. The animation team is firing on all cylinders… Look, I think Leo resonated for the same reason The Sea Beast did last year. People love it. And they do watch it over and over again, which drives engagement and attachment. Leo and The Sea Beast are proof points that we can create original IP in the animated space. I’m super thrilled with Leo.”

After seeingMurder Mysterybreak records on its arrival in 2019, the sequel did equally well when released in 2023. Having extended his deal in 2020, Sandler still has more movies to deliver before his latest contract expires, and the next of those will beSpaceman, a sci-fi adventure that falls more into Sandler’s surprisingly successful non-comedic performances.
