Alec Baldwinand his family are not shying away from showing his side regarding one of the darkest moments of his life. His new reality series,The Baldwins,as it is so called, began filming in the weeks leading up to the trial forhis part in theRustshooting, forcing the actor and the cameras to face it head-on in the premiere. It’s an extremely candid look at a devastating event —the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins— and the criminal trial against Baldwin that followed. And now that the TLC reality series is about to premiere (on June 16, 2025), Baldwin and his wife, Hilaria, are talking about what it was like to share such a moment with the world.
In a new story featuring interviews with the couple, Hilaria shows her focus has primarily been on how the whole experience impacted their children. The two have seven kids, ranging in age from two to eight years old. “They’ve had some really unfortunate realizations about things that are going on,” she explained. “Life will forever be different. Halyna lost her life in the most unthinkable tragedy. A son lost his mom. We are going to feel and carry this pain forever.”

Alec Baldwin Could Be Returning to Court After All in New ‘Rust’ Trial Twist
The ongoing legal battles surrounding the fatal shooting incident are seemingly far from over.
“This will be a part of our family story,” she noted, before Baldwin went on to share his gratitude for his family and how they kept him afloat, emotionally and mentally, in the aftermath of that fatal day back in October 2021. “Honestly, from the bottom of my soul, I don’t know where I’d be if I didn’t have you and these kids going through this — I never would have made it with this.”

Alec Baldwin Thinks His Big Family Saved Him In Aftermath Of ‘Rust’ Shooting
“Sometimes I’d say, ‘Why did I have seven kids? Why do we have seven kids?’,” the actor said in an interview with his wife. “And I realize, to help carry me and you through this situation.”
After all, “[t]he past three years has been a significant chunk of my children’s lives,” Hilaria explained. “Our older ones were much younger, but have had the awareness — because of their age — to be able to understand what’s going on. The youngest three don’t know a life without this.” And when you consider that thing is a very public trial about whether your father was negligent when he shot two people during a rehearsal on a movie set, it’s easy to see how impactful that might be on a young person with so few years under their belt.

For those who may not know the details, a quick primer: Alec Baldwin was holding a prop gun during a rehearsal on the twelfth day of shooting — what had previously been considered his “passion project” — the movieRust, when it discharged, resulting in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, and injuring director and writer Joel Souza.Baldwin has insistedthat he did not pull the trigger on the gun. The criminal case involving Baldwin that was filed (and later dismissed by a judge in New Mexico) is what the actor is dealing with in the series' first episode.
