The hit horror filmM3GANgets spoofed in a new sketch fromSaturday Night Live. On Saturday night’s new episode, which kicked offSNLfor 2023, Aubrey Plaza made her hosting debut, with Sam Smith serving as the musical guest. During the show, a special appearance was also made byM3GANstarAllison Williamsfor a parody trailer forM3GAN 2.0, the sequel that’s now in development based on the success of the killer doll movie. You can check out the skit below.

The sketch features Chloe Fineman as M3GAN, with Plaza portraying the new-and-improved M3GAN 2.0. After touting the success of the first film, the parody trailer focuses on how M3GAN has captivated one demographic above all: gay men. The trailer’s narrator promises that the sequel will be “even more gay,” as Plaza’s M3GAN 2.0 has a dance-off with Fineman’s M3GAN at a gay bar. A cameo from Williams reprising her role fromM3GANis also met with glee when she tries to warn the others that a killer is in their presence.

M3GAN doll

“Oh my god… are you from the showGirls?” Bowen Yang’s character exclaims, as the trailer concludes that “this one’s for the gays.”

While this is a parody trailer, Plaza still comes into this role with experience dealing with killer animatronic dolls. She previously starred in theChild’s Playremake released in 2019, featuring the voice of Mark Hamill as a new version of Chucky, who, very much like M3GAN, was a technologically-advanced doll. Also, like M3GAN, this Chucky turns murderous after getting a bit too overprotective of his child friend. ButChild’s Playwas not quite as successful asM3GANhas been, which is why the latter is the one getting a sequel.

The Real M3GAN Will Return to Theaters for M3GAN 2.0

Allison Williams will return alongside Violet McGraw for the upcoming sequel,M3GAN 2.0. Akela Cooper is also back to write the screenplay after crafting the story and penning the script for the first film. What the plot will entail is currently unknown, though it seems unlikely to be set entirely in a gay bar like theSNLparody. Williams recently teased that their goal will be to do something new with the idea, subverting expectations.

“I just feel so grateful that it all has gone the way that it has, from the trailer coming out and people really embracing her, people going out and supporting the movie and seeing it and going back with their friends,” Williams toldVariety. “The fact that they want more is just so great. It’s gonna be really fun if we get to work on it, to figure out how we can zig and zag that around the expectations of what it would be and try to keep things surprising while also delivering on the reasons that people want more in the first place.”

M3GAN 2.0will be released in movie theaters on Aug 21, 2025. You can stream theSNLepisode with the parody trailer on Peacock.
