Warning: This article contains spoilers for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Corey Stollhas once again proven that unwritten Marvel Cinematic Universe rule that no character is beyond death in the MCU. Having seen his character of Darren Cross seemingly killed inAnt-Manby Scott Lang, who disrupts Cross’ Yellowjacket suit to a point it uncontrollably shrinks causing Cross to disappear from reality, his return as the MCU’s MODOK inAnt-Man and the Wasp: Quantumaniais one that even Stoll never saw coming. When asked whether he had any idea of his MCU return, Stoll toldComicBook.com:

“Absolutely not, no. There was a period of about a week between when I heard that Peyton [Reed] wanted to talk to me and when I talked to him. All I knew from my manager was ‘they want you to be in a new movie, and he is transformed in some way.’ My mind speculated wildly over that next week about what that meant. If there was some sort of weird multiverse thing where I was just the actor, Corey Stoll was just going to be playing a different role. I didn’t know what that was going to be about, or if it was just going to be a flashback or what. Then Peyton wanted to speak to me before they really wrote it. They had this idea.”
While it would seem that this time there is no doubt that Darren Cross/Yellowjacket/MODOK is dead, that doesn’t mean Stoll has given up hope of reprising his role again in the multi-layered narrative of the MCU.

Could MODOK Get His Own MCU Spin-Off, or Appear as a Multiverse Variant?
While most actors only get one shot as a Marvel villain, with some notable exceptions, Corey Stoll has had two bites of the cherry, but would certainly be up for more. While this may currently seem unlikely given MODOK’s heroic death after aiding Scott’s defeat of Kang, Stoll knows how he wouldn’t like to seeMODOKmake a comeback. Addressing MODOK’s death and possible return, Stoll said:
“Well, it was a very mixed thing, because it’s, first and foremost, an amazing death, and is the best scene I got to play in the movie. So you wouldn’t want to lose that. But it also means nobody… You can always bring people back in these movies, but it makes it that much less likely to come back. So that was sad. I think having gone so comedic with this, it would be fun to maybe go back before the events of this movie and see him as this really scary, mechanized organism designed only for killing, but I don’t know if the audience could take him seriously after the events of this movie. So it could be fun to see him actually try to be an Avenger.”
For now,MODOK has been checked off the listof crazy MCU characters that fans would like to see appear at some point in Marvel’s live-action movies and TV shows. Whether he will return again through the magic of the multiverse is seemingly a question for another time, but it looks like Stoll would be happy to return to the role if asked.
