It’s probably just a matter of time before the masked swordsman known as Zorro gets his next reboot, and one previous actor known for playing the role is endorsing Tom Holland. In 1998,Antonio Banderasfamously played the role in the hit filmThe Mask of Zorro, later returning to reprise the part in 2006’sThe Legend of Zorro. Banderas spoke with Quentin Tarantino about possibly returning asZorroone last time in aDjango Unchainedcrossover, though the project fizzled out before that could happen.

In a new interview withComicBook.com, Banderas touched on the state of theZorrofranchise. He confirmed that he’d be happy to reprise his role as Zorro, but in a way that sees himpassing on the torchto a new actor, much in the way Anthony Hopkins had for him inThe Mask of Zorro. But who would Banderas want to see serving as his successor in the role of Zorro? He would have to sayTom Hollandafter what he saw from the actor during their work together onUncharted. From the interview:

TomHolland

“Tom Holland. I didUnchartedwith him and he’s so energetic and fun and he’s got this spark, too. Why not?”

Whether Holland gets that call remains to be seen. In recent years, there have been various reports ofZorrogetting rebooted, and one such project is reportedly happening at Disney+ withThat ’70s Showstar Wilmer Valderrama. OnThe Drew Barrymore Showin May, Valderrama teased that the reboot would be a “Zorro for this generation.” Perhaps it’s not too late for Banderas to get a cameo, even if his choice actor of Holland isn’t the person playing the new Zorro.

Tom Holland Will Stay Busy Even Without Zorro

There hasn’t formally been a sequel announced forUncharted, but there have been reports oftentative plans for sequels to be developed. It may not be Zorro, butUnchartedfeatures Holland taking on the role of Nathan Drake, the adventurer featured as the playable character of theUnchartedvideo games. Banderas played the villain in the film.

As for where Holland will wind up next, there have also been reports that he’ll be back as Peter Parker in anotherSpider-Manfilm, hardly a surprise given the immense success ofSpider-Man: No Way Home. He is also set to play Fred Astaire in an upcoming biopic and plays a main role in an upcoming Apple TV+ series calledThe Crowded Room, which is based on the true stories of people coping with mental illness.
