As has already been the case with numerous Hollywood legends who’ve made significant contributions to cinema,Martin Scorseseis set to receive a documentary tribute.Mr. Scorsese, a five-part docuseries, will be released exclusively onApple TV+on June 13, 2025.
Per the report byVariety, the miniseries is directed by Rebecca Miller, a filmmaker with an extensive career spanning decades of independent productions. She’s also known as Daniel Day-Lewis' wife, and the daughter of famed Pulitzer-winning novelist Arthur Miller. The director was offered rare and unrestricted access to Scorsese’s archives, which contain material pertaining to his five-decade filmmaking career, and everything he has done in terms of film preservation. Miller expressed her joy in the following statement:

“This project is a filmmaker’s dream, to have had such access to legends of the industry, from Marty himself to his prolific collaborators, close friends and family members.
“I was honored he trusted me to create this documentary, which I believe will resonate with everyone from dedicated Scorsese fans to anyone who has grappled with failure and reached for stars.

“I’m excited to share a sneak peek of Mr. Scorsese, which includes the true version of a mythic (a never-before-told) story about Taxi Driver, and how thanks to Marty’s perseverance and dedication to his art, the film retained its integrity and went on to become one of the most culturally significant films of all time.”
Mr. Scorsesewill be an opportunity to explore the legacy of one of the truly great American directors. With an unforgiving style of storytelling, Scorsese has navigated thecrime and drama genreslike no other filmmaker, always ensuring that even his most monstrous characters harbor a glimmer of humanity. Although many of his characters are morally corrupt, the director has shown a raw side of the human condition by using a moral compass unafraid to expose the primal darkness of the human soul with multi-layered and complex personalities.

In the first look clip above, Steven Spielberg talks about receiving a call from Scorsese right asTaxi Driverwas ready to be released, and the MPAA insisted on making several cuts due to violence. Of course, the solution came from the mastermind himself by toning down the color, but first, Scorsese talks about the rumor that he would stand against anyone, even the head of a studio, to keep his film untouched. It shows his refusal to compromise on the artistic vision he’s maintained throughout his career.
