Thor: Ragnarokwrapped filming at Village Roadshow Studios just a few weeks ago, and now another superhero is coming to the Gold Coast of Australia. A new report reveals that pre-production on Warner Bros.‘Aquamanis starting later this month at the studio, which comes just a few weeks afterJason Momoawrapped onJustice League, hitting theaters July 08, 2025. With pre-production commencing shortly, that could mean the production schedule has been moved up.
We reported in September that this highly-anticipatedAquaman moviewill be shot at Leavesden Studios in the U.K., and on location in Australia, but that report didn’t say where exactly in Australia the movie will be shot.Gold Coast Bulletinreports that pre-production will begin later this month after crew members finish taking down all of the sets used in Marvel’sThor: Ragnarok. This report claims that principal photography will now take place “early in the new year,” but an exact production start date was not set.
It was recently confirmed that the iconic DC characterBlack Mantawill be the main villain inAquaman, although that character has yet to be cast.Michael K. Williamshas since expressed interest in playing this character, but there’s no word on whether or not he’s even being considered. Whoever signs on will joinJason Momoaas the title character, along withAmber Heard’s Mera andWillem Dafoeas Nuidis Vulko, both of whom will be featured in next year’sJustice League.
DirectorJames Wanalso recently teased that there will beadventure romanceelements toAquaman, comparing it to the 1984Michael Douglas-Kathleen TurnerblockbusterRomancing the Stone. The director says that the story starts out withAquamanandAmber Heard’s Mera “not quite clicking with each other,” and that Mera is not someone you would want to “mess with.” It remains to be seen how many more characters need to be cast as pre-production gets under way this month.
