In just a week, Disney and Lucasfilm will finally be releasingStar Wars: Rogue One, the first everStar Warsmovie to take place outside of the main Skywalker saga. Aside from Darth Vader and Mon Mothma, this spin-off won’t feature a whole lot of recognizable characters from the franchise. At least we didn’t think so. Now, It sounds like there may be some more familiar faces showing up in the movie. Fair warning: this article may contain relatively significant spoilers forRogue One: A Star Wars Story, so if you don’t want to have anything spoiled, turn away now.
The alleged news comes courtesy of aReddituser who goes by the name of tphilb and was posted to theStar WarsSpeculation subreddit. The information is pretty hard to verify, so you may not want to take it as gospel, but he or she claims that they have seen the credits forStar Wars: Rogue Oneand in the credits, it was revealed that characters like Princess Leia (played by an actress namedIngvild Deila) andC3POwill appear in the movie. Just for some context, here is how tphilb explained this potentially revelatory information, but even they warn this should be taken as rumor for the moment.

In addition toPrincess Leiaand C-3PO, this post also seems to further confirm thatGrand Moff Tarkin, originally played by the latePeter CushinginStar Wars: A New Hope, will have a role inStar Wars: Rogue One. He will supposedly be played byGuy Henry, who played Pius Thicknesse in theHarry Pottermovies. Given that the events ofRogue Oneare said to take place right before the originalStar Wars, it would make sense for each of these characters to show up in some capacity. It is very unclear how big of a role any of them will play, but it seems like it would be relatively small. In any case, it is interesting that the movie will seemingly have some more connective tissue toA New Hopeand the greaterStar Wars universe.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Storyhas very high expectations placed on it, both in terms of quality and box office, just by virtue of the fact that it is aStar Warsmovie. The movie is currently on track to make around $130 million opening weekend, but box office tracking has been somewhat unreliable for big movies lately, so it could easily top that. But with the tremendous pre-sale numbers, $130 million is starting to seem a little low. Assuming this report does turn out to be true, once word gets out that some more familiarStar Warsfaces are in the movie that could help generate interest among more casual fans.
