‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ is going to deliver a “cinema-redefining” experience.
It seems a big theme ofFire and Ash will be dealing with the emotional aftermath ofThe Way of Water, and how Neytiri responds to it in compelling and somewhat unforeseen ways. “Not only would everything that’s happening compel her to question the bond she has with her husband, but also her bond with herself, her people, her land, and the way the Na’vi are. She’s going to question everything.”
Despite winning an Oscar for her performance inEmilia Pérez, Cameron teases that we’ve seen nothing yet from Saldaña, who is “incandescent” inAvatar: Fire and Ash.

“WithEmilia Pérez, she’s finally getting recognised as the top-tier actor we’ve always known she is. But in [Fire And Ash], that goes way beyond what you’ve seen before.”

If you weren’t convinced already thatAvatar: Fire and Ashwon’t pull any emotional punches, James Cameronrecently revealedthe first audience reaction to the upcoming sequel. His wife, Suzy Amis Cameron, was shown the completed version of the film in late 2024. Of course, she might be a slightly biased viewer, but it helped that she had not seen any footage before the final cut. According to the director, she was emotionally distraught after seeingFire and Ash, and she ended up bawling “for four hours.”
“My wife watched the whole thing from end to end — she had kept herself away from it and I wasn’t showing her bits and pieces as we went along. This was December 22nd. She bawled for four hours. She kept trying to get her sh** back together so she could tell me specific reactions, and then she’d just tear up and start crying again. Finally, I’m like, ‘Honey, I’ve got to go to bed. Sorry, we’ll talk about it some other time’."

It’s unclear whyFire and Ashwas so emotionally devastating, but it’s safe to say some fans might have to bring a lot of tissues when the film hits theaters this December.
