Earlier today, we showed you the Empire Magazine coversthat feature the main cast members assembling fromAvengers: Age of Ultron, the highly-anticipatedMarvel Phase Twosequel that hits theaters May 1. The magazine also has a description of the sequel’s opening scene, confirming a rumor from early last year that the movie will kick off with a Bond-like action sequence that finds theAvengerspaying a visit to an Eastern European castle where Hydra’s Baron Von Strucker (Thomas Kretschmann) has been hiding out with Loki’s scepter. The sequence is described as a, “pre-credits Bondian blow-out,” with the magazine also offering a detailed description of the scene that follows, where the heroes are en route to Avengers Tower for their victory celebration. This was teased in the previously-released trailers. Be warned there may be potentialSPOILERSbelow, so read on at your own risk.

“As Stark is flying the ship,[Robert] Downey Jr.goes and sits in the pilot’s seat.[Jeremy] Rennerlies down on a table in the middle of the jet and clutches his stomach while a fake drip is attached to his arm. It’s clear that, whatever went down at von Strucker’s, it has left the Avengers' ace archer in considerable distress. As the dialogue plays out, it becomes clear that [Mark Ruffalo’s] Bruce Banner has Hulked out, or what he calls a “code green,” during the assault on Strucker’s fortress, and is deeply troubled by it. [Scarlett Johansson’s] Natasha tries to reassure him - ‘If you hadn’t been there, there would have been double the casualties.’ Banner grimaces, and replies with, ‘You know, sometimes exactly what I want to hear isn’t exactly what I want to hear.’ Seeking back-up, Natasha turns to [Chris Hemsworth’s] Norse god. ‘Thor, report on the Hulk?’ she asks.Hemsworthimmediately lights up and lets rip with a rousing tribute to all the violence unleashed by the Hulk, filled with words like ‘screams’ and ‘victims’ and ‘whimpering.’ Seeing that it has the opposite effect to that intended on Banner, the God of Thunder turns God of Blunter, stammering and stumbling, digging himself deeper into a hole.”

DirectorJoss Whedonalso joked that he kills all of the Avengers in this sequel, leaving Marvel with no one exceptAnt-ManforPhase Three.

“I f*cking kill them. All of them. I do it. Marvel don’t even realize it. When they see the final cut, they’ll be like, ‘Omigod! What are we going to do forPhase 3? We literally have no one! ExceptAnt-Man!’ They’re going to be so pissed.”

While the filmmaker is obviously joking, he was also asked about a scene shown in the Comic-Con trailer, where Tony Stark is seen looking at the bodies of his compatriots. This scene was confirmed to be an illusion created by Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), but when asked if these heroes all die at the hands of Thanos, the filmmaker had this to say.

“I can neither confirm nor deny that ittotallyis.”

There have already been rumors circulating that theAvengerslineup will be completely different at the end ofAvengers: Age of Ultron, so it’s possible that some of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes may be killed off. Of course, it seems highly unlikely that Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans) or Thor (Chris Hemsworth) will be killed off, since they are already confirmed to be in upcoming sequelsCaptain America: Civil WarandThor: Ragnarok. As for Thanos, we haven’t gotten confirmation that he will appear inAvengers: Age of Ultron, but hopefully we’ll learn more about Thanos and the supposed deaths ofAvengerscharacters in the near future.
