Benedict Cumberbatch should be pretty used to keeping Marvel secrets by now, having been part of the MCU since 2016’sDoctor Strange. Having had it easy during the release ofSpider-Man: No Way Home, Cumberbatch is now bracing himself for the press tour ofDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessand all of the questions that will be coming his way that he just can’t answer. While appearing at the SAG Awards, the actor was asked byEntertainment Weeklyaboutthe potential introduction of the Illuminati in the upcoming movieand being an old hand at this kind of thing, he was quite happy to joke about the position he is now in.

“It’s the beginning of all of this, isn’t it? I kind of escaped it with Spider-Man because we were doing reshoots for Strange, I couldn’t do the tour. Poor Tom [Holland] and [Zendaya and Jacob Batalon] and everyone else had to go, ‘Yeah. Haven’t heard about that’ and just sort of deny everything.”

While he would not give the answers reporters were looking for, he did comment that theDoctor Strangesequel is “a feast. It’s a Sam Raimi special. It’s got everything it says in the title and a lot more besides.” From what has been seen so far in the trailers and TV spots, that seems to be the biggest understatement of the year with more being teased in this movie than pretty much the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe so far.

Benedict Cumberbatch Will Give Nothing Away About The Multiverse of Madness

While there have been some people who have let secrets slip during interviews about their upcoming Marvel roles, there is no one that expectsBenedict Cumberbatchto be that guy. If you go back a few years, thePower of the Dogactor was pretty much used as a chaperone to prevent Tom Holland spilling the beans about Infinity War, so during all the interviews he will be doing to promote the May release, it should be expected that he will be keeping mum about all the big reveals coming in the movie.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesswill pick up after the events ofSpider-Man: No Way Home, and will see Stephen Strange once again being pulled into a multiversal adventure, one which seems likely to change the MCU forever. The film will see the return of Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff in her newly achieved Scarlett Witch form, and there is still a lot ofuncertainty whether Wanda will be on Strange’s side or against him.

With many cameos expected in the movie, from those who are already known to those who may not exactly be as we are used to seeing them, the one thing for certain is thatDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessis going to potentially be another instant $1 billion movies and then some. Considering by the time May comes the Covid pandemic will have moved on even further, Marvel could well be aiming to put another MCU movie near the top of the list of cinema’s highest-grossing films of all time.
