Bohemian Rhapsodytook home Golden Globes for Best Drama and Best Drama Actor, but nobody mentioned director Bryan Singer during their acceptance speech. While Rami Malek and the rest of the cast and crew of the biopic never mentioned Singer’s name, social media did, and found it ironic that a movie that Singer directed ended up winning top honors in the era of #MeToo and Time’s Up movements. Despite this backlash, Singer posted a thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press for the Golden Globes awards on social media.

Bryan Singerwas fired fromBohemian Rhapsodywith a little over two weeks left of filming to go. He was replaced by Dexter Fletcher who took on the rest of the directing duties. Singer’s behavior on the set was big news during the filming of the biopic. After a new set of sexual assault allegations became public, the director wouldn’t show up to the set and when he did, lead actor Rami Malek and Singer would get into arguments, though Singer denies this. After reportedly going home to deal with “family obligations,” he was fired from the project. The studio cited “unreliability and unprofessionalism” for the reasoning behind the firing. Singer shot most of the finished movie, though, and his name remains on the film as the sole director.

With so manysexual misconductallegations against Bryan Singer, people were shocked to see thatBohemian Rhapsodytook home top Golden Globes honors and they expressed their reactions on social media, many pointing at all of the #MeToo and Time’s Up pins seen in the audience. Nobody mentioned the director’s name from the stage, but it was definitely pretty awkward for people watching at home. Singer has denied all of the allegations leveled against him over the years and continues to do so. When asked about not mentioning Bryan Singer,Bohemian Rhapsodyproducer Graham King had this to say.

“That’s not something we should talk about tonight. Every single person collaborated and did (the film) out of passion (for) making this story. That was everybody.”

In addition to the sexual misconduct allegations against Bryan Singer, many took issue withBohemian Rhapsodytaking home theBest Drama awardbecause the movie wasn’t well-received by critics. In fact, many panned the movie while heaping praise on Rami Malek’s performance as legendary Queen front man Freddie Mercury. The biopic beat outBlack Panther,BlacKkKlansman,If Beale Street Could Talk,A Star Is Bornfor the win.

Rami Malek was also asked about Brian Singer backstage at theGolden Globesand stated that “nothing was going to compromise us,” noting that it was all about Freddie Mercury. Malek said that Mercury is a “marvel,” and thatBohemian Rhapsody"celebrates" him. With that being said, the music biopic is now the highest grossing of all time, and will more than likely see a boost at the box office after all of the awards attention. you’re able to check out some reactions toBohemian Rhapsodywinning below, starting with Bryan Singer’s Instagram account.
