It was reported earlier this month thatCameron Diazwas retiring from acting, leaving many confused, since she’s only 45-years old. The reports all started when Diaz’s friend andThe Sweetest Thingco-star Selma Blair talked about the actress not having a lot to do since she had retired from acting. As it turns out, Blair was only kidding, but the news spread like wild fire, announcing that Cameron Diaz had retired from acting. The news led to Diaz announcing that she would come out of “semi-retirement” to reunite for a sequel toThe Sweetest Thing.

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cameron Diaz, Selma Blair, and Christina Applegate got together to discussThe Sweetest Thingand the idea of a possible sequel. This led to Diaz joking about theretirement rumorswith the rest of the women. Applegate and Diaz both said that they aren’t really up to much these days. Diaz said, “I mean, I’m down. I’m literally doing nothing.” With Applegate replying that she’s, “literally doing nothing, too! I’m semi-retired, I haven’t worked for years. I’m a mom, that’s what we do. So I’m around, man.” Diaz then stated this, which many are taking as confirmation that she’s actually retired. Though it could be more of a joke than anything.

“Totally down… (I’m) semi-retired, too, and I am actually retired, so I would love to see you ladies.”

Cameron Diaz hasn’t been seen on the big screen since2014’s Annie reboot, which wasn’t exactly a monster hit at the box office. The reboot was also torn apart by critics, so some fans found it pretty easy to believe that she had committed to retirement from show business. But, that’s not exactly the case. The actress is just taking a well-deserved breather and will more than likely jump into a new project sometime in the future, which could very well be a sequel toThe Sweetest Thing.

Many news outlets are reporting that Cameron Diaz actuallyretired from actingfrom the same interview, but the actress is clearly being sarcastic along with Christina Applegate. However, it’s definitely some good press for Diaz when she decides to sign on to do her next project. That movie will be able to advertise that Cameron Diaz is coming out of retirement to join the cast, so it’ll be a big important role. It’s actually pretty smart, especially since she was just kidding. We think. Maybe she wasn’t.

WillThe Sweetest Thingsequel end up happening? At this point in time, it’s hard to say. However, Selma Blair, Cameron Diaz, and Christina Applegate are all down to make it, so maybe a script will show up next. We’ll just have to wait and see. As for Cameron Diaz’s next project, that’s a mystery as well.
