ThoughAnthony Mackiewas busy in 2019 fighting Thanos inAvengers: Endgame, he also appeared in an episode of the hit sci-fi seriesBlack Mirrorthat same year, portraying a man who reconnects with his best friend through a virtual reality fighting game. Mackie is set to take up the shieldof Captain America next, but before we get there, he recently sharedwhat happened to a “nerdy kid"while he was shooting his episode of Charlie Brooker’s series in San Paulo, Brazil.

Speaking withEntertainment Weekly(seen below at the 10:27 mark), Mackie couldn’t help but laughas he relayed the story of a crew member getting robbednot once, not twice, but three times while he was filming “Striking Vipers,” the first episode ofBlack MirrorSeason 5. He said that all three occurrences happened within four days of one another, which caused the “sad little sucker"to lock himself away in his hotel room in fear.

“We shot this episode ofBlack Mirrorin Sao Paulo, Brazil, and there was this little nerdy kid, really cool kid, who worked on this, and in the course of four days, he got robbed three times. Every time he left the hotel, someone would come behind him and push him behind a dumpster and take his sh*t. So after the third time, he couldn’t leave the hotel, so he was locked in the hotel for two months! Sad little sucker. True story though. Nobody robbed me!”

Black Mirror: The Best Episodes, Ranked

Black Mirror on Netflix has presciently critiqued the technology that rules our lives for years. With season six coming, here are its best episodes.

Dealing with themes of infidelity, sexuality, and friendship, “Striking Vipers” holds a 75% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and can regularly be found somewhere in the middle on most “Best Of” lists that rank the series' episodes. It’s not exactly compelling, but it does hold your attention as Mackie and his co-star, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, pose the question:is it really an affair if it doesn’t take place in the real world? When compared to an episode like “San Junipero,” “Striking Vipers” doesn’t really bring anything new to the series, but still, it’s worth the watch if for no other reason than to see Mackie’s outstanding and emotional performance.

‘Black Mirror’ Returns With A Star-Studded Cast in 2025

First debuting in the UK on Channel 4,Black Mirrormade the jump to Netflix in 2016, reaching a wider audience that helped propel it into the stratosphere of success. As such, it’s managed to draw in a number of high-profile celebrities in addition to Mackie, including Miley Cyrus, Jodie Whittaker, Aaron Paul, Jesse Plemons, Domhnall Gleeson, and Hayley Atwell.

While it hasn’t been seen since 2023,Black MirrorSeason 7 is set to premiere on Netflix in 2025, and has once more managed to assemble an all-star cast. Awkwafina, Peter Capaldi, Paul Giamatti, Jimmi Simpson, Rashida Jones, and Emma Corrin are just a few names we’ll see next year, which speaks to the show’s popularity still going strong after all these years, despite some sayingit’s lost a bit of its luster. No release date has been set, but we’ll be sure to pass along that info – as well as a trailer – when it becomes available.
