When the officialD23 Exposchedule was released last month, ‘Disney’s Worlds, Galaxies, and Universes: Live Action at The Walt Disney Studios’ panel was easily the most anticipated. The studio announced that it would be presentingAlice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass,The Jungle Book, Marvel’sCaptain America: Civil WarandStar Wars: The Force Awakens, but it wasn’t revealed who would be on hand to present for each movie, or what exactly was being shown. Fans got quite the surprise whenCaptain America: Civil WarstarsChris Evans(Captain America) andAnthony Mackie(The Falcon) took the stage, flying all the way from Berlin, where production is currently in its last week. The stars shared the first footage from this highly-anticipated superhero adventure, and while it isn’t known when these scenes will be made available online, we have a description fromThe Hollywood Reporter.
The footage begins withCaptain America,The FalconandBlack Widowteaming up to take down the villainousCrossbones(Frank Grillo) in a crowded marketplace. ‘Red Wing Activate!’ Says, Falcon. The scene then reveals that Falcon has a drone version of his comic book sidekick Red Wing. When they find Crossbones, Cap fights him, knocking his mask off. Crossbones is clearly angry about what Cap did to his face. You may recall seeing photos from the set that showed these gruesome scars.

There is an interesting revelation in this fight scene as Crossbones tells Cap, “You know, he remembered you. Your pal, your buddy, your Bucky,” which references last year’sCaptain America: The Winter Soldier, where Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) was turned into the killing machine known as The Winter Soldier. Fans also got to hearWilliam Hurt’s General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross as he narrates scenes of Iron Man and War Machine fighting side-by-side. Here’s what Ross tells Cap in a scene at the Avengers' new headquarters, where all the new Avengers gather.
“The world owes you an unpayable debt. A lot of great many people see you as a hero. There are some who prefer the word vigilante. People are afraid.”

The footage then goes on to feature Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) arguing about superhero ethics with Captain America, telling Cap, “Sometimes I want to punch you in your perfect teeth.” Cap explains that they try to save as many people as they can, but “Sometimes that doesn’t mean everybody.” We also see Winter Soldier stuck in that same room where we last saw him, during the end credits scene ofAnt-Man, while Stark says “Without boundaries, we’re no better than the bad guys.” Another shot shows Black Widow fighting her longtime friend Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner). Black Widow asks if they’re still friends, and Hawkeye responds, “Depends on how hard you hit me.”
The footage comes to a close with Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) meeting Captain America for the first time, along with Scarlet Witch. Lang is so excited and overjoyed he mixes up his own words, stating “Thinks for thanking of me” instead of “Thanks for thinking of me.” These final shots also feature a containment area of some kind, which is appropriately labeled D23. But we’re not sure what’s in this containment area. You may recall that the end credits scene inAnt-Manfeatured The Winter Soldier, whose arm was stuck in some sort of device, as Cap and Falcon tried to find a way to break him free without alerting the other Avengers. Falcon says, “I know a guy.” This implies that he is going to bring in Scott Lang and hisAnt-Mansuit. And from the scene they showed at D23, that’s apparently exactly what they did.
Captain America: Civil Warpicks up whereAvengers: Age of Ultronleft off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain. While we wait for this footage to come online, you can check out a photo ofChris EvansandAnthony Mackiebackstage at the D23 Expo. What do you think of this footage description?
