The CW’sCharmed rebootseries has been forced to suspend production after a positive COVID-19 test. Work was halted earlier today after a person on the set tested positive. The network is now following safety protocols and conducting contact tracing, according to sources. The series, which films in Vancouver, Canada had to shut down production last month too, due to a delay in test results for several cast and crew members. Cases have been spiking in record numbers all over North America for the past several months.
It is believed that theCharmedreboot series will be able to get back to work tomorrow, after all safety protocols have been followed. However, that will all depend on how the contact tracing goes. This is far from an isolated incident in the entertainment industry as CBS’Young Sheldonand the CW’sAll Americanalso had to recently shut down for a day, along with HBO’sThe Gilded Age, and several more. TheCharmedreboot follows the lives of three sisters, Macy (Madeleine Mantock), Mel (Melonie Diaz) andMaggie(Sarah Jeffery), who, after the death of their mother, discover they areThe Charmed Ones, the most powerful trio of good witches, who are destined to protect innocent lives from demons and other dark forces. Each sister has their own unique powers and it follows a lot of beats from the original series, which starred Shannen Doherty, Rose McGowan, Holly Marie Combs, and Alyssa Milano.
Lately, there has been some beef between theCharmedreboot series and the original show.Rose McGowan and Holly Marie Combsposted videos of themselves on social media talking trash on the new version of the show, which premiered in 2018. McGowan said the new show “sucks,” which led to current star Sarah Jeffrey to call her and Combs out, labeling them as “pathetic” and even insinuating that they were “racist” since the reboot has a diverse cast. McGowan replied by stating that she “honestly had no idea” who Jeffery was until the tweet, and noted she’s “been too busy fighting monsters & fighting for a massive Cultural Reset to notice who’s in the reboot.”
Rose McGowan also shut down the insinuation that her opinion about theCharmedreboot was rooted in racism. “Absolutely nothing to do with race, that’s quite a stretch you took,” McGowan continued. “I’m beyond glad any WOC has a well-paying job. Hell yes to that. I’m sure you are a great actress.” Shannen Doherty has thrown her support behind the reboot. “I have seen a lot of people be very mean and very negative and cruel to the new show and the new cast,” Doherty said. “I want to remind everybody that these are three girls who just want to act.
