Even though his name was nowhere to be seen during theAvengers: Doomsdayannouncement that took place a few days ago on a YouTube livestream,Chris Prattsays that we haven’t seen the last of his character in the MCU. Pratt played Star-Lord, a.k.a. Peter Quill, across theGuardians of the Galaxyfranchise and the rest of the MCU entries. Although the conclusion of theGuardians of the Galaxytrilogy hinted at the possibility of his return, the actor’s name was curiously absent fromthe chairs that confirmed the cast ofAvengers: Doomsday.
Speaking with Collider about his newest science fiction thriller,Mercy, Pratt addressed his current status in the MCU. He jokingly said that he thought his name was supposed to be on one of the chairs, but the camera “must have cut away from it.” The announcement of theAvengers: Doomsdayconsisted of a livestream of a camera showing names on chairs. The camera did not move quickly, and the broadcast lasted more than five hours. This is what Pratt said about his name being absent:

“I don’t know! I think it was, like, far off… They must have cut away from it. I don’t know what happened. I don’t know. It was there. I’m sure it was there.”
Ranking the Top 10 MCU Movies and Shows Since ‘Avengers: Endgame’
After the success of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and the original team disbanding, the question on everyone’s minds was, “Where do we go from here?"
Even though Pratt is not returning (for now) to the MCU inAvengers: Doomsday,it doesn’t mean he can’t reprise his rolein another film or TV show. The Marvel Studios franchise is vast enough to give him an opportunity elsewhere, and if we were to take his words seriously, then fans can rest assured that Star-Lord will be back at some point:

“I can’t say, for fans of mine, where they’ll see Star-Lord again, but I can tell them we made a promise at the end of [Guardians of the Galaxy] Vol. 3 that the legendary Star-Lord will return, and he will return.”
Pratt’s name wasn’t the only one absent from the announcement. None of the Guardians were announced to return in the upcoming movie. The same happened with other MCU icons, like Tom Holland as Spider-Man and Brie Larson as Captain Marvel. Of course, it’s a bit early to confirm that none of them will return, but the early signs don’t bode well for them.

Which MCU Characters Will Return in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’?

These are some of the performers, and their respective MCU characters, who will show up in the upcoming superhero juggernaut: Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, and Letitia Wright as Shuri / Black Panther.
