Just seven months afterproductionbegan on the star-studdedCollateral Beauty, Warner Bros. has unveiled the first trailer for this drama, which could be an awards season contender this year. While it certainly could become an Oscar favorite, it also has the unfortunate task of opening on the same date as LucasFilm’s firstStar Warsspin off,Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Still, both of these movies are catered to two completely different audiences, so they both may end up faring quite well at the box office this holiday season.
The trailer, which debuted onWarner Bros.' YouTube, gives us our first look atWill Smith’s Howard Inlet. Howard is a successful New York advertising executive who experiences a deep personal tragedy and retreats from life entirely, and spends his time writing letters to things like love, death and time. His colleagues devise a drastic plan to force him to confront his grief in a surprising and profoundly human way.

The all-star supporting cast includesHelen Mirrenas “Death,“Keira Knightleyas “Love” andJacob Lattimoreas “Time,” who all come together to help Howard through these troubling times.Edward Norton,Michael Pena,Naomie HarrisandKate Winsletalso star in this drama, which may be a shoe-in for all of the ensemble cast awards. This drama comes just months afterWill Smithplayed the assassin Deadshot inSuicide Squad, with the actor taking a far different approach to death with this new character.
David Frankel(The Devil Wears Prada,Marley & Me) is directingCollateral Beautyfrom anoriginal screenplaybyAllan Loeb(The Space Between Us).Loebis also a producer on the film, together withBard Dorros(Triple 9) andMichael Sugar(Best PictureOscar winnerSpotlight) under the Anonymous Content banner.Anthony Bregman(Foxcatcher) also produces for Likely Story withKevin Scott Frakes(John Wick) for PalmStar Media.
