Production has been under way onSeason 2ofMarvel’s Daredevilsince early July, and we’ve already gotten our first official look atJon BernthalasThe Punisher. With shooting still happening in New York,Jon Bernthalshared a new photo from the set on hisTwitterpage earlier today, which reveals part of his massive arsenal of weaponry. As you may see in the image below, Frank Castle is well-equipped to defend himself in the new season of this Netflix series.
Back in May 2013,Marvelwon back the rights to The Punisher franchise, along withGhost RiderandBlade. While Frank Castle is set to appear onDaredevil Season 2, a rumor surfaced in June that claims Netflix is developing new TV shows forBlade,Ghost Riderand Punisher, so we may be seeing a lot more of Frank Castle after his run onMarvel’s Daredevil. Then again, that report was never confirmed, so we’ll have to wait and see.
As for The Punisher’s appearance onMarvel’s Daredevil, showrunner Marco Ramirez revealed thatJon Bernthalwill have a huge role this season, which will primarily focus on his character squaring off againstCharlie Cox’s title character. While Daredevil has a strict no-kill policy, which he struggled with inSeason 1, The Punisher is described as a serial killer who only targets criminals. Their contrasting views of justice reportedly will not result in any sort of physical confrontation between the two crime-fighters, but it will be more of a philosophical disagreement.
The Punisher will not be the primary villain inSeason 2, but we don’t know yet who that villain may be.Elodie Yungjoins the cast this season as Elektra, but it still isn’t known for sure ifVincent D’Onofriois returning as Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin. At the end ofSeason 1, Kingpin was put behind bars for his crimes in Hell’s Kitchen, so it’s possible we could see him in jail for at least part of the season.Rosario Dawson,Deborah Ann Woll,Elden Henson,Scott Glenn, Bob Gunton, Toby Leonard Moore, Vondie Curtis-Hall andAyelet Zurerare also set to return.
Season 2is slated to air sometime in 2016, which will follow the first season ofMarvel’s Jessica Jones, set to debut later this year.Marvel’s Luke CageandMarvel’s Iron Fistare also expected to debut in 2016, withThe Defendersminiseries tentatively slated to arrive sometime in 2017.
