We may have to wait a tiny bit longer to seeDeadpool 2, but that could be a good thing. Yesterday, a report surfaced that suggested the highly anticipated, but at the moment troubled,Deadpoolsequel was going to beshooting this Januaryin Vancouver. As it turns out, that won’t be the case.
The news ofDeadpool 2filming in January originated on What’s Filming? The site listed movies that were expected to start production in Vancouver this January andDeadpool 2was one of them.Colliderhas received word that this report is totally false. According to their sources, even before the recent string of production drama, the movie was scheduled to start filming in March. So the reported January start time was way off base. That is probably a good thing, because given the fact that the movie doesn’t currently have a director January would definitely seem like Fox was rushing things a bit.
It was recently revealed that directorTim Miller, who directedDeadpooland had a huge hand in getting the movie made in the first place, had leftDeadpool 2over “creative differences.” It was later revealed that those differences had a lot to do with the casting of the mutantCable. Reportedly,Tim Millerwanted to castKyle Chandler, butRyan Reynoldsand Fox weren’t on board with the idea. It was also reported that there were two very different versions of the movie on the table and ultimatelyTim Miller’s vision didn’t win out. The disagreement resulted inMillerdeparting the project and now Fox needs to find a new director. They are also in need of a composer, becauseJunkie XLalso left the project in a show of solidarity withTim Miller.
The new report didn’t note whenDeadpool 2will go into production, but that is probably hard to know at the moment. Once Fox hires a new director, things will probably start to clear up a bit. The current frontrunner appears to beJohn WickdirectorDavid Leitch, but that has yet to be confirmed. There was also a fan petition started in an attempt to getQuentin Tarantinoto board the project, but don’t hold your breath on that one. Once Fox hires a director, the script can be approved and things can start moving in the right direction.
It seems unfortunate thatTim Millerfelt the need to leave the project, considering how hard he worked to help get the firstDeadpoolmade. But most of the original team fromDeadpoolwill be returning.Rhett ReeseandPaul Wernickare once again writing the script and most importantly,Ryan Reynoldswill be returning to play theMerc With a Mouth. There is still no release date set forDeadpool 2, but Fox reportedly wants to release the movie in early 2018. That is still possible if they can hire a director soon, but if not, they may have to bump things back a bit.
