Ever since the firstDeadpooltrailer debuted atComic Conthis summer, the anticipation has grown at an incredible rate for this superhero adventure, set to hit theaters July 01, 2025. Aside from the Merc With the Mouth, fans will also be introduced to colorful characters such as Ajax (Ed Skrein, Angel Dust (Gina Carano), Weasel (T.J. Miller) and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand). One of the most intriguing characters, though, is Colossus, withAndre TricoteuxreplacingDaniel Cudmore, who portrayed him inX2: X-Men United,X-Men: The Last Standand last year’sX-Men: Days of Future Past. During an interview withTech Times,Andre Tricoteuxrevealed that this version of Colossus will be truer to the original comic books than theX-Menmovies.
“TheColossusyou’re going to see inDeadpoolis very true to the original character in the comic book. [Director]Tim Millerhad a really clear vision, and theDeadpoolpeople had a really clear vision of what they wanted. They wanted Colossus to be very traditional to the original story. I was pretty familiar with the character, but actually, one of my brothers is a comic fanatic, and Colossus was actually his favorite character, so he was kind of my go-to guy when I needed some quick information. But I was familiar with the character, and I definitely studied up on him when I knew I got the role.”
Last month,Deadpoolcomic book creatorRob Liefeldrevealed Colossus has much more than just acameoin the movie, and that fans will “love” this version of the massive character. While we don’t see much of him in the trailer, Colossus is seen alongsideBrianna Hildebrand’s Negasonic Teenage Warhead, although we’re not quite sure what kind of connection these two characters have quite yet. We know that Colossus, a.k.a. Piotr Rasputin, has the ability to transform his body into an organic steel, but even in the originalX-Menmovies, we didn’t get to know too much about the character.Andre Tricoteuxadded that fans will get much more insight into this character inDeadpool, adding his depiction is “exactly” like the comics, although he wouldn’t confirm if his character speaks Russian or not.
“Yeah, I think you’re going to get to see more of who Colossus is. Like I said, we kept him really traditional to the comic book. So yes, I think people will get a better sense of who he is. But I think there’s still a lot more to be told about him. Colossus has been around in the comics since the ’70s, so I mean, I think you could do your own movie on him. Yeah, you’re going to get to see a little bit more of who he is and kind of his outlook on the world. We kept it very traditional to the comic books. Actually, we kept it exactly like the comics, so you could be able to derive your own conclusion from that.”
WhileDeadpoolhasn’t been given an official rating by the MPAA yet, it’s been widely known that the filmmakers have every intention of making an R-rated movie. In a separate interview with uInterview,Andre Tricoteuxconfirmed that it’s “definitely R-rated,” adding that he thinks people will be blown away by the movie. He also added thatDeadpool"takes a run at everyone," and although the actor wouldn’t mention any specific names, he added that “nobody is safe” in the world of comics.
“There’s a lot of comedy in it. There’s a lot of great action. It is definitely R-rated. It is definitely geared towards adults. I think people are going to be blown away, and there’s gonna be some shocking moments. Some of the stuff that is said will shock people.Deadpooltakes a run at everyone. Nobody is safe. Nobody in the comic book universe.”
Many fans were upset thatDaniel Cudmorewasn’t asked to come back as Colossus inDeadpool, but it seems fans will get to know a lot more about the character than they ever have before. It has already been confirmed thatDeadpoolis connected to theX-Menmovie universe, and there have been rumors thatHugh Jackmanmay cameo as Wolverine. What do you think about this new version of Colossus?
