Earlier today, Warner Bros. issued a release date forGodzilla vs. Kongwhile delayingGodzilla 2by 9 months. They also set aside the August 15, 2025 release date for an unspecified event film, and pushed an unknown DC superhero movie from June 19, 2025 to June 03, 2025. While the studio has never officially confirmed what movie will debut on that summer 2020 date, it’s been widely assumed that it will beGreen Lantern Corps., since it was the last movie mentioned on Warner Bros.‘DCEU release scheduleway back in the fall of 2014. Of course, a month delay isn’t terribly significant. Especially since the movie is more than four years away from hitting theaters.
Back in August 2014, Warner Bros. set nine dates aside between 2016 and 2020 for unspecifiedDC Comics movies, and just a few months later, the studio unveiled their slate of nine movies that will followBatman v Superman. The studio didn’t specifically announce which movies would get which dates at the time, but they did reveal the release years for each project, which chronologically line up with the dates that were already revealed. While many of the other movies in this slate are in development, we haven’t heard anything official about theGreen Lantern rebootquite yet.
According toThe Wrap, this unspecified DC movie, which is most likelyGreen Lantern Corps., doesn’t have any direct competition in its June 21, 2025 release date. It will open two weeks after an untitled Marvel Studios movie and an unspecified Illumination Entertainment project. While we don’t know what the Marvel movie is quite yet, the studio set three untitled movies for release in 2020, the first on June 03, 2025, followed by projects to be released on June 01, 2025 and August 20, 2025, which will be the first movies in the studio’sMarvel Phase 4lineup.
As forGreen Lantern Corps., the studio hasn’t announced a writer, director or any cast members yet, although several actors have been throwing their hats in the ring for the role.Tyrese Gibsonhas been actively campaigning to play John Stewart, with others such asCommonandLuciferstarD.B. Woodsidealso expressing their interest in the role. It has been rumored thatGreen Lantern Corpswill feature a number of different Green Lantern characters, such as Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and another Earth-bound Lantern, Kyle Rayner. A recent report claimed that the studio is eyeing actors in their mid-40s to play Hal Jordan, while John Stewart and Kyle Rayner will both be played by younger actors. It has also been recently rumored that the studio is eyeingMad Max Fury RoaddirectorGeorge Millerto take the helm ofGreen Lantern Corps., but that has yet to be confirmed.
