The nextDunefilm has gotten a major update, as two key characters have been cast in the Denis Villeneuve-directed sequel.Dune: Messiahwill feature a significant time jump as Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) rises to power, and while it seems production is not starting soon, the film has already found who will play the children of Atreides and Chani (Zendaya).
According to Nexus Point News, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke have joinedDune: Messiahas Leto II and Ghanima, respectively. They will be playing the twin children of Atreides and Chani. Although it was assumed there would be a time jump, it seemsMessiahis moving further into the future than some anticipation. Villeneuve is seemingly pulling from Frank Herbert’sChildren of Dunenovel, which focused on the twin children as heirs to the Atreides' empire. It is possible that he is blending bothMessiahandChildren of Dune, so the timelines might be adjusted for the adaptation. The events ofMessiahtake place 12 years after the original novel, whileChildren of Duneis set nine years after the second installment.

It’s Not Just Recency Bias — Steven Spielberg Was Right To Call Denis Villeneuve’s Sci-Fi Epic an All-Time Great
Even though it was only released last year, ‘Dune: Part Two’ was named one of the greatest sci-fi films ever by one of the greatest directors ever.
While casting seems to be heating up for the film, there is still a lot of work to be done beforeMessiahhits theaters. Messiah, which will feature most of the cast returning (including Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho), is expected to hit theaters on Jun 26, 2025. With that in mind, it seems reasonable that it could begin production later this summer. However,Hans Zimmerrecently told Variety that he just spoke with Villeneuve about the film, revealing that they have “something,” but there is still “a lot of desert” left to traverse.

“I just spoke with Denis. We’ve got something. We’re on our way, but there’s a lot of desert in front of us.”
The Cast of ‘Dune: Messiah’
With Denis Villeneuve back at the helm,Dune: Messiahwill see most of the original cast return. As of this writing, the confirmed members include Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Zendaya as Chani, and Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, among others. And yes,Momoa is back as Duncan Idaho. We won’t spoil exactly how that happens, but expectMessiahnot to skip out on some of the more fantastic elements of the Frank Herbert novel. Meanwhile, Messiah will bring several new faces into the fold, including a major new cast member that will serve as the film’s main antagonist.
The BatmanRobert Pattinson hasjoined theDunesequelas Scytale, the shapeshifting Face Dancer of the Bene Tleilax. He is first introduced in Herbert’sMessiah, and is widely regarded as one of the best villains of the fantasy saga. Like Austin Butler inDune: Part Two, Pattinson will have a chance to make a distinct mark as an unsettling foe for Atreides in the sci-fi franchise. Meanwhile, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brook will likely be main players in the film series moving forward as the twins Leto I and Ghanima, respectively.
