When Universal Pictures started theirMonster Universea few years ago, there had been talk of several different classic projects getting rebooted.Dracula Untoldbecame the first installment in this franchise, after a post-credit scene featuredLuke Evans' title character showed him emerging in present day.The Mummyreboot will be next out of the gate, hitting theaters next June. But we aren’t sure which project is moving forward next. Today we have word that the studio wantsDwayne Johnsonto star in their modern update ofThe Wolf Man.

Buried withinDeadline’s report aboutDwayne Johnsonsetting up another project at Sony entitledSon of Shaolin, the site claims there are “persistent rumors” that Universal wants the actor to portray the title character, although it isn’t clear when that project may get off the ground. If it’s far enough down the line, it’s possible thatDwayne Johnsonmay be able to fit it into his schedule, but he currently has his hands full with Universal’sFast & Furious 8, which is in production, and then later this year he moves onto theJumanjireboot.

We first reported on thisWolf Man rebootback in November 2014, whenAaron Guzikowski(Prisoners,Friday the 13threboot) came aboard to write the script. It isn’t known if the project has a director attached, or if the studio has a release date penciled in quite yet. The studio is reportedly also working on reboots ofThe Invisible Man, which hasJohnny Deppattached to star,Van Helsing,Frankensteinand much more.

The Wolf Manfranchise was launched in 1941 withLon Chaney Jr.playing the title character, which spawnedFrankenstein Meets the Wolf Man(1943),House of Frankenstein(1944),House of Dracula(1945) andBud Abbott Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein(1948), which all featured the Wolf Man. Universal also tried rebooting the property in 2010 withThe WolfmanstarringBenicio Del Toro. No story details have been given for this newhorror reboot.

AfterDwayne JohnsonshootsFast & Furious 8andJuanjithis year, he also has projects such asSan Andreas 2, a remake of the video game classicRampageand a skyscraper thriller with Legendary and directorRawson Marshall Thurber, which are all in various stages of development. The action star also recently signed on to play the iconicDoc Savagein a new movie adaptation from directorShane Black, and he’s also developing a remake ofBig Trouble in Little China.
