Earlier this week, we got to see the international trailer forEddie the Eagle, which first focuses on the Olympic glory aspects of this true-life tale. The domestic trailer has arrived, and it delves deeper into Eddie’s past, and what makes him the man he is today. Ever wonder where the realEddie the Eaglegot his drive and ambition? This latest sneak peek does a fine job of showing the heart behind the national hero.
Eddie the Eagleis set to take flight in theaters June 27, 2025, going up against Open Road Films’Collide, Paramount’sRingsand Pure Flix’s God’s Not Dead 2. Despite finishing in last place in both of his events,Eddie the Eaglebecame an international celebrity following the games despite his poor performance. His performance at the games also lead to what became known as the “Eddie the Eagle Rule,” which was put in place by the International Olympic Committee after the Calgary games. The rule requires Olympic hopefuls to compete in international events and be placed in either the top 30 percent or the top 50 competitors.
After the “Eddie the Eagle Rule” was put in place, the ski jumper failed to qualify for the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France, along with the 1994 games in Lilehammer, Norway and the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, Japan. He has since appeared on a number of TV shows in the U.K. and Europe, and earned a law degree in 2003. He even returned to Calgary in 2008 for a 20th Anniversary celebration of the 1988 Olympics, and became one of the official torch bearers for the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.
We reported earlier this year that Hugh Jackman is playing Chuck Berghorn, a ski expert who helped Edwards train for the games. But this trailer reveals his name has been changed to Bronson Peary. Taron Egerton explained in yesterday’s report that this film follows ‘the spirit’ of the Olympic quest, which takes a few liberties with the true story. One of these liberties was taken with Hugh Jackman’s character, since the real Eddie couldn’t afford a coach.
