Ewan McGregorand his daughter, Clara, recently sat down withMovieWebto chat about their new film,Bleeding Love, which sees McGregor starring as a father embarking on a road trip with his estranged daughter in an emotional story about addiction. While it can be difficult to work with family members in such a stressful environment, the 52-year-old Scottish actor said it was just the opposite when co-starring with his real-life daughter. McGregor had nothing but praise for Clara, commenting on how strong their bond was during the filming of their new movie.
“We were there for each other and with each other every step of the way, and I was so proud of her for having achieved this very difficult task of getting a movie made. Because Clara told the story, and had it written and produced and found a crew. And I’m so proud of her. There was never any [issue], it was just encouragement all the time, you know, ‘Go for it!'”
Bleeding Love
Directed by Emma Westenberg,Bleeding Loveis a heart-wrenching story aboutthe cycle of addiction, and a father desperately trying to salvage what little relationship he has left with his estranged daughter, while at the same time trying to save her. McGregor commented that despite the film’s emotional subject, when it came to sharing the screen with Clara during scenes that required harsh dialogue, in those moments there was nothing but encouragement for one another.
“And not to hold back, because the nature of some of the scenes, it would be very upsetting things to say to your dad or to hear from your daughter. And in those moments, it was almost like a complete encouragement to go for it. It was wonderful to get to play with her, it was just an amazing opportunity to spend that time together, to live in those scenes together, it was just brilliant. I mean, it was great acting by Clara. I had no idea really until I was there, and I was like, ‘Oh, okay.'”
Lightening the mood, Clara McGregor injected a bit of humor into the conversation, jokingly commenting on why her father had such high praise for her abilities.

WhileBleeding Loveis an emotional roller coaster of a film, McGregor is also set to star alongside Anne Hathaway in the new film by director David Robert Mitchell (It Follows,Under the Silver Lake). Though the movie is guarded in secrecy at the moment, reports have come out that it could involve dinosaurs. In a recent interview with Collider,McGregor seemed to debunk those rumors, but did reveal the roles he and Hathaway will take on.
“Well, I don’t know where they’re getting dinosaurs from. That may or may not be the case. But no, I like [David Robert] very much, this film director, and I like very much the idea of working with Anne Hathaway. I’ve got a feeling that I think the two of us as parents will be… Yeah, I’m trying not to say anything. I’ve spoiled that part. We’re both parents. It’s gonna be fun, I think. It’s difficult to say more about it without saying anything about it. I think you’ve got to take everything with a pinch of salt that you read online at the moment, you know what I mean?”
