If someone doesn’t win an Oscar for that final shot, it will be the beginning of my villain story.

TheJoker 2teaser trailer dropped late Tuesday night at 9:30 p.m. EDT and is trending at No. 1 today. At the time of this writing, Todd Phillips’ sequel is garnering a lot of attention online, and the footage has already amassed nearly 7.4 million views on YouTube alone. Joker 2 Teaser Takes the Internet by Storm

The final scene of theJoker: Folie à Deuxteaser trailerleft fans' jaws on the floor, but there’s plenty more to be excited about in director Todd Phillips' follow-up to 2019’sJoker. In fact, some social media users are already predicting another Academy Award for Lady Gaga, thanks to her portrayal of the Clown Prince’s partner in crime.@FEEK_tmwrote on X, formerly Twitter: “Lady Gaga, next Oscar is loading.”

Another X user,@joeymonda, even had a little fun sprucing up AMC Theatres' ongoing Nicole Kidman advertising campaign by adding the Joker and Harley into the marketing fold. Check out the mash-up below:

The upcoming musical extravaganzaalso received quite a bit of praise online for its cinematography. And some fans even took the time to differentiate between Joaquin Phoenix’s version of the Clown Prince of Crime and the late Heath Ledger’s Oscar-winning iteration of the DC Comics character.@swagzagoon2596wrote in the teaser trailer’s YouTube comments:

“I love how both Ledger’s and Joaquin’s Joker have the same role of being against society, but act it out in a different way. Ledger’s was chaotic and scheming madness, but Joaquin’s almost feels like artistic madness like a painting he just poured paint cans on until he was satisfied.”

Joker: Folie à Deux’s Reported $200M Budget Shows WB Continues to Learn the Wrong Lessons

The first Joker worked because it was a smaller street-level film made on a relatively small budget. Joker 2 could be abandoning that approach.

Filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s representation of the Joker (Ledger) inThe Dark Knightis arguably a grittier and more maniacal take on the character, while Phillips' big-screen version, portrayed by Phoenix, comes across as a more demure kind of crazy in what appears to be a very artistic and beautifully shot sequel to the 2019 film. Regardless,Joker 2seems ready to pull out all the stops, especially if the first teaser trailer turns out to be a true indication of the final product.
