Productionhas been under way for just under three months on theHarry PotterprequelFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which has been set for release on August 23, 2025. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen any photos from the set, with filming taking place at Leavesden Studios in London. But today, Warner Bros.' launched officialTwitter,FacebookandInstagrampages for the highly-anticipated movie, which reveal two new logos. The first logo is prefaced with “FromJ.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World” along with the entire title, while the second just features the initials FB.
While there isn’t much we can glean from these logos, it’s worth pointing out that the first logo features a creature that resembles a dragon as one of the S’s in Beasts, while the second logo gives the F a dragon-esque shape. It seems likely that Newt Scamander, played by Academy Award winnerEddie Redmayne, will encounter at least one dragon in his journey, but we’ll have to wait until next November to find out for sure.Pottermorealso spoke with an unspecified member of the team that designed this logo, who revealed that it actually represents a number of magical beasts.
“If you think of Harry Potter, that logo instantly comes into your mind: the lightning bolt ‘P’ and the shape of the words. So we wanted this one to feel like it was born of that same world. We were trying to come up with something that drafted similarly off that iconography but in a new way. In a Fantastic Beasts way. The logo is a blend of beasts, it’s not just one takeaway. When we arrived on the idea for the ‘S’ it excited us. So we thought there must be a way to accent these other letters with claws or ribs - hints to other beasts, while this one is the logo’s centrepiece.”
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Themcenters on Newt Scamander, the wizarding world’s preeminent magizoologist, who stops in New York following his travels to find and document magical creatures. The story takes place in the 1920s, years beforeHarry Potterand his friends Ron and Hermione made their way to the legendaryHogwartsSchool of Witchcraft. Newt Scamander’sFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Themwill become a text book that is used by the students in their studies.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them also starsKatherine Waterston(Inherent Vice) as Tina and Alison Sudol (Dig, Transparent) as Tina’s sister, Queenie, the twofemale leadsof the movie. The supporting cast includes Tony Award winnerDan Fogler(The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) as Jacob;Ezra Miller(Trainwreck) as Credence; two-time Oscar nomineeSamantha Morton(In America, Sweet and Lowdown) as Mary Lou; Jenn Murray (Brooklyn) as Chastity; and young newcomer Faith Wood-Blagrove as Modesty. The final addition to the cast isColin Farrell(“True Detective”) as the wizardGraves.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Marks the screenwriting debut ofJ.K. Rowling. The script was inspired by her character Newt Scamander’s Hogwarts textbook, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The film is being produced by David Heyman, producer of all eight of the blockbusterHarry Potterfeatures. He will produce alongsideJ.K. Rowling;Steve Kloves; andLionel Wigram.
