In what could be easily categorized as a “truth is stranger than fiction” episode of life, something seriously bizarre occurred during a screening of the latestFinal Destinationmovie,Final Destination Bloodlines. Things got scarily meta after an audience member had a real-life close call while watching the latest installment in the franchise about death always catching up. While watching the horror outing, a section of the roof collapsed and almost landed on her head.
The incident took place in La Plata, a city in the Buenos Aires province in Argentina at the venue Cinema 8. The victim was 29-year-old Fiamma Villaverde and, celebrating her birthday, she decided to seethe horror moviewith her daughter and a friend. “I hadn’t gone to the movies in years. I went because it was my birthday, and look at what happened,” Villaverde said, according to Infobae. The victim also says that she hasn’t been able to return to work after the incident, and that she’s supposed to take care of her child: “I haven’t filed a lawsuit, but I’ve contacted an attorney. I haven’t been to work. Who’s going to take care of this?”

The incident took place on May 19, at one of theFinal Destination Bloodlinesscreenings that were playing that evening.During the film’s violent and thunderousfinal act, the movie’s sound effects were loud enough to make part of the roof collapse. Villaverde claims that she was fortunately leaning on the armrest, otherwise the lethal piece of rubble would have fallen on her head. Although the theater personnel eventually called an ambulance, she claims the establishment treated her badly:

“We heard a loud noise. At first, we thought it was part of the movie because we were deeply in tune with the movie, but then part of the ceiling fell on me. I asked for the money back, and while I was waiting, the theater manager came and asked me, ‘How would you like to settle this?’ I got upset and said, ‘How do I want to settle what? I’ll sue you. What if it had hit my daughter? You’re truly reckless.'”
Villaverde confirms that the piece of the ceiling that fell did not hit her head. But it was big enough to hit her shoulder, back, knee and ankle. She continues: “I was very angry. I got X-rays. The diagnosis was blunt force trauma. I’m very bruised, and I have to return to the hospital for further evaluation.”
