The world ofFireflyis going to continue. While many fans are still holding out hope thatJoss Whedon’s beloved sci-fi seriescould be revived someday, for now, fans can take some solace in the fact that theFireflycanon universe is expanding, via a series of new novels. The books are set to be published by Titan Books, via a partnership with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products. Yes, these books will be officially tied to the canon. The best part? Joss Whedon is involved as a consulting editor. So this is very much a real part of theFireflyuniverse.
The first of these newFireflynovels,Firefly: Big Damn Hero, is set for release this fall, with two more novels coming our way in 2019. For those who have been craving moreFireflyadventures, this could be just what fans have been hoping for since walking out of the movie more than a decade ago. Here’s what commissioning editor Cat Camacho had to say about the new canonFireflybooks.

Fireflyoriginally aired on Fox from 2002 to 2003 and starred Nathan Fillion, Gina Torres, and Alan Tudyk, among others. Even though the seriesonly ran for one season, in addition to the theatrically released movieSerenity, which was directed by Joss Whedon and released in 2005, the world ofFireflytruly resonates with fans of science fiction and is something that has remained in pop culture ever since. Fox owns the rights toFirefly, but with the Disney/Fox deal pending approval from regulating bodies, that may change in the future. Could Disney gives us the actualFireflyrevival/reboot fans have been craving for more than a decade? Who knows? In the meantime, at least you can look forward to these books coming your way starting later this year.
