Before BBC America’sDoctor Whocomes toComic-Conthis year,Entertainment Weeklyhas debuted the first photo fromSeason 9, which doesn’t have a premiere date set yet. This photo featuresPeter Capaldias theTime Lord, standing outside of the TARDIS in a desolate landscape, and it seems the good doctor is quite perplexed by something. When asked about what’s happening in the photo,Peter Capaldihad this to say.
“The photo shows the Doctor about to make a mistake that has cataclysmic repercussions.”

When asked to tease theDoctor Who Season 9premiere, entitled"The Magician’s Apprentice",Peter Capaldiwent onto reveal that it will have a few nods to the 1960s.
“It places the Doctor in a conflict that is central to his being, as well as containing some subtle tributes to the ’60s, and truly wonderful guest performances.”
The actor also talked about how the new season will be different fromDoctor Who Season 8, hinting at the new monsters fans will see, including the return of Missy, played byMichelle Gomez.
“He’s throwing himself into life with a newfound hunger for adventure. He’s in pursuit of joy and grabbing every thrill that he can along the way. But I sense him running from something, that even he does not yet understand. There is an epic sweep to this season and I think the villains and monsters reflect that. Great new ones, brilliant old ones, and some very scary creatures looming in stories with real emotional ambition. In the hands of Michelle Gomez,Missyis more magnificently bad than ever before.”
Back in March, we reported thatGame of ThronesstarMaisie Williamswill have a guest-starring appearance this season, although nothing was revealed about her character.Peter Capaldidid reveal a tiny tidbit bit more while speaking quite highly about the 18-year-old actress.
“Maisie Williamsis fantastic. A sharp, talented tornado. As an 18-year-old, she has taught me many new words and expressions. All I’ll say about her character is she shifts in cosmic ways.”
Before she was ultimately confirmed to return for this new season,Jenna Colemanhad considered leaving the show. When asked if this will be her last season,Peter Capaldisaid, “I hope not,” and then teased how the doctor and Clara’s relationship evolves this season.
“They’ve suddenly realized that they are the most fortunate people in all of time and space and are hellbent on adventure. Jenna continutes to deliver a beautifully nuanced, complex, and funny performance that marks her out as one of the best companions ever.”
