Robin Wright is at the helm whenHouse of Cardsreturns for its sixth and final season in Fall 2018. The first trailer debuted for these last episodes during the Oscars last night. And it shows Clair ready to take complete control of the White House.
House of Cardsstars Golden Globe winner and Emmy Award nominee Robin Wright, as well as Michael Kelly, Diane Lane, Greg Kinnear, Jayne Atkinson, Patricia Clarkson, Cody Fern, Constance Zimmer, Derek Cecil, Campbell Scott and Boris McGiver. Executive producers are showrunners Melissa James Gibson and Frank Pugliese, and Robin Wright, David Fincher, Joshua Donen, Dana Brunetti, Eric Roth, Michael Dobbs and Andrew Davies.
The series was created by Beau Willimon and is produced by Donen/Fincher/Roth. MRC, also behind the hit Netflix seriesOzark, is the studio producingHouse of Cards, the first original series produced for Netflix. In 2013,House of Cardsbecame the first original online series to receive major nominations from the Primetime Emmy Awards.
The series has received 53 Emmy nominations to date, with seven wins, including the first major Emmy for a streaming service for David Fincher’s win for “Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series.“House of Cardsreceived six Golden Globe nominations, and two wins. The historic series has received 11 Screen Actors Guild nominations with two wins; an AFI Award; four Writers Guild Award nominations, with one win; two BAFTA nominations; four Producers Guild Award nominations; two Directors Guild Award nominations; and a Peabody Award, among other accolades.
The reason forFrank Underwood’s absencehas not yet been disclosed. But it’s well know that the character was being removed from the series following a huge sexual misconduct scandal directly involving star Kevin Spacey. A big portion ofHouse of CardsSeason 6 had already been shot when the news of Spacey’s harassment broke. It isn’t know if any of the episodes that had already been produced are going to air.
House of Cardswent on hiatus afterKevin Spaceywas accused of inappropriate behavior against a number of men. Production on the final season began in early 2018 and is continuing now. Cody Fern is the latestnew cast memberto join the series. And also helping to fill the void left by Kevin Spacey are heavy hittersDiane Lane and Greg Kinnear, who were cast well after the initial production started in 2017. The show has been shortened to just 8 episodes as opposed to a full 13 episode order. And the early production that was scrapped may be a result of that.
