Late last month, we reported that production had finally began on New Line Cinema’s adaptation ofStephen King’s beloved novelIT, which will be split into a two-part movie. The first movie will follow a group of kids known as theLosers Club, who band togethr to fight off a an evil clown known as Pennywise. The second movie brings back the same characters as adults, asITemerges once again and the Losers Club must defeat him once and for all. With production continuing this week, we have new photos that show how a town in Ontario, Canada is being transformed into Derry, Maine from the iconic novel.

Northumberland News reveals that production is set to start in Port Hope, Ontario Canada today, with filming slated to last in the town until Monday, July 18. Naturally, the town underwent a number of cosmetic changes to transform itself into Derry, Maine, with these images also confirming what year the first movie is set in. One of the photos shows that the marquee on the Port Hope Capitol Theatre has been changed to show thatBatmanandLethal Weapon 2are playing in this theater, indicating that themovie adaptationis set in the year 1989.

The photos also feature a massive Paul Bunyan statue, along with a number of local shops having new storefronts put up for the production. We had reported in February that shooting has shifted from New York to California, after the production had secured atax creditfrom the state, but it seems that some of the exteriors will be shot in the town of Port Hope, Ontario. Since production is only slated to take place in the town for a week, it’s possible the rest of the filming will shift to California after they wrap in Ontario.
