127 HoursandTrainspottingdirector Danny Boyle recently dropped out of helming the newJames Bondmovie with Daniel Craig leaving the job forTrue Detectiveseason one andBeasts of No Nationdirector Cary Fukunaga to pick up. But even if Boyle is stepping out of the directing chair on this new Bond adventure, the man still has an idea of who he’d like to see step into the famous super agent’s deathly shoes should the time come to replace Craig. And just like Matt Reeves and the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne inThe Batman, it looks like Boyle thinksTwilightstar Robert Pattinson should snag the 007 name.

In an interview for his upcoming musicalYesterday, Boyle talked a bit about having just seen Claire Denis' sci-fi-horror movieHigh LifestarringRobert Pattinsonand said this.

“It was so bizarre because I was sitting there thinking: ‘Oh my God, they should get him to be the next Bond.’ He must be in his 30s. How old was [Sean] Connery? He’s ready now.”

Danny Boylethen goes on to speak a bit more about just why the hell he decided to step away from directingBond 25, saying this:

“I was with [Trainspotting and The Beach collaborator John Hodge] and they didn’t really like what we were doing and so it’s far better to part company. What we were doing was good. But it was obviously not what they wanted. That’s ultimately what you learn. But you’ve got to go into that stuff optimistically. It’s like falling in love. You can’t go in guarded and trying to protect yourself. You have to be open-hearted and prepared to be hurt - and so what if you get a bit of bruising? You get well-paid and well looked after. So at the end of the day, these are champagne problems.”

So Boyle is out ofJames Bond 25, and Cary Fukunaga is in. But don’t feel too bad for Boyle just yet as the28 Days LaterandSlumdog Millionairefilmmaker has a new movieYesterdayall set to hit screens later this month.
