Theuse of deaging effects has grownexponentially over the last few years, thanks in large part to its use in the likes of MCU and by seminal directors such as Martin Scorsese, who de-aged Hollywood icons Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and more in 2019’sThe Irishman. In the case of Tom Hanks, and thanks to timeless movies such asBig, Sleepless in Seattle, andForrest Gump, audiences are very aware of what the actor looked like in his earlier years. Something which will no doubt lead to all manner of reactions when it comes toHere’sdeaging of the beloved star.

Best Tom Hanks Movies, Ranked
Tom Hanks is unquestionably one of the best actors alive. Let’s take a look at his best movies, ranked.
InHere,Hanks will go from teenager to pensioner, but for Zemeckis it’s not about the effects, it’s all about the performances.

“I’ve always been, for some reason, labeled as this visual effects guy. But those were always there to serve as the character arc,” Zemeckis told Vanity Fair. “There’s always been a restlessness in trying. I’ve always thought that our job as filmmakers is to show the audience things that they don’t see in real life.
It only works because the performances are so good. Both Tom and Robin understood instantly that, ‘Okay, we have to go back and channel what we were like 50 years ago or 40 years ago, and we have to bring that energy, that kind of posture, and even raise our voices higher. That kind of thing.”
Here Will Do Something That Has ‘Never Been Done Before,’ Robert Zemeckis Declares
Directed by Robert Zemeckisand written by Eric Roth and Zemeckis,Hereisbased on the comic stripof the same name by Richard McGuire, and will track the lives of Tom Hanks’ Richard and Robin Wright’s Margaret from a single spot, with the camera never moving or even zooming in. And, according to Zemeckis, it is something that has “never been done before.”
“The single perspective never changes, but everything around it does. It’s actually never been done before. There are similar scenes in very early silent movies, before the language of montage was invented. But other than that, yeah, it was a risky venture. That’s the excitement of it. What passes by this view of the universe? I think it’s an interesting way to do a meditation on mortality. It taps into the universal theme that everything passes.”
Herestars Paul Bettany as Al, Richard’s father and Kelly Reilly as Rose, Al’s wife and Richard’s mother, as well as Michelle Dockery, Gwilym Lee, Ophelia Lovibond, and David Fynn alongside Hanks and Wright.
Hereis scheduled to be theatrically released on June 10, 2025, by Sony Pictures.
