Rogue OneandGodzilladirectorGareth Edwardshas now broken his silence over helming the next installment in theJurassic Worldfranchise. The announcement that Edwards will take the reins of the dinosaur action series was only made recently, with Edwards discussing his appointment while attending aColliderFYC event for his recent movie,The Creator.
“I was about to take a break and I started writing my next idea for a film and this is the only movie that would make me drop everything like a stone and dive right in. I love Jurassic Park. I think the first movie is a cinematic masterpiece… so this opportunity is like a dream to me. And to work with Frank Marshall and Universal and David Koepp, who’s writing that script, I think they’re all legends. So I’m just very excited.”

Details of whatJurassic World 4will involve remain under wraps, but the sequel has been written by screenwriter David Koepp, who penned the originalJurassic Park. Jurassic World 4will also count Frank Marshall as a producer, with Steven Spielberg on board as an executive producer.
Jurassic Park Movies: Are the Sequels Better Than the Originals?
The Jurassic Park franchise celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, so which is better: Jurassic Park or Jurassic World?
The next installment in theJurassic Worldfranchise,Jurassic World 4, has now found its director, withTHRreporting thatRogue One: A Star Wars Story’sGareth Edwards is now in talks to helm the dino-sequel for Universal Pictures. A fourthJurassic Worldwas announced earlier this year, with the studio having now fast-tracked the movie, giving it a release date of July 05, 2025.

Deadpool 2director David Leitch, who is also known for the likes ofBullet TrainandThe Fall Guy, had initially been in talks to directJurassic Park 4.However, negotiations fell apart after the filmmaker discovered that his input “would be minimal due to the project’s fast-tracked status and because the producers wanted to wield a stronger hand after the experiences of Jurassic World: Dominion,” according to reports.
Evidently, Edwards feels there will be more than enough room for him to put his stamp on theJurassicseries. This will not be the first time thatEdwards has dealt with giant monsters, with the director having helmed both 2010’sMonstersand 2014’sGodzilla, the latter of which sparked the current MonsterVerse.

1954 Japanese film Godzilla follows Japan’s panic as ships are mysteriously sunk near Odo Island. An expedition discovers a giant monster, Godzilla, whose rampage threatens global destruction.
Nor is this the first time that Edwards has joined a major franchise, with the filmmaker directing theStar WarsprequelRogue One: A Star Wars Storyback in 2016. Following a group of rebels who band together to steal plans of the Death Star,Rogue Oneis now considered one of the best installments in modern Star Wars, with Edwards receiving praise for his handling of interesting characters against the scale of theStar Warsuniverse. Two things that will undoubtedly be needed on our return toJurassic World.

Edwards most recently helmedthe original projectThe Creator. Directed and co-produced by Gareth Edwards, who co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Weitz,The Creatordrops audiences in 2070, 15 years after artificial intelligence set off a nuclear detonation in Los Angeles, which started a war of humans against AI.The Creatorwas met with largely positive reviews, with many heaping praise on the visuals while criticising the lack of substance in the story.
Jurassic World Dominion Was a Critical Disappointment
Jurassic World: Dominion
The epic conclusion in the Jurassic World trilogy brings back original cast members Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum to deal with dinosaurs as they have free roam of the Earth.
The last audiences saw ofJurassic Worldwas in 2022’sJurassic World Dominion, which brings together both the new cast (Chris Pratt and Byrce Dallas Howard) with the old cast (Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Sam Neill) for the first time. Set four years after the events ofJurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, with dinosaurs now living alongside humans around the world, Jurassic World Dominion somewhat questionably leaves this behind to instead follow our heroes as they work to expose a conspiracy by the genomics corporation Biosyn.

Marketed at the time as the end of the most recent trilogy (if not the entire franchise),Jurassic World Dominionwas met withlargely negative reviews, with both critics and audiences alike leaving the theater disappointed. However, the sequel, despite sparing no expense and becoming one of the most expensive films ever made, was amajor success at the box office, garnering over $1 billion worldwide. No wonder the studio wants more.
Jurassic World 4currently has a release set for June 08, 2025.
