Snips was never going to be dark-side dark, but Lucasfilm’s Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer,Dave Filoni,did reveal that “our original version" of Ahsoka Tano “was quite serious.” Filoni helped dream up the beloved character, who first appeared in the animated feature filmStar Wars: The Clone Wars(2008). And Filoni spoke in detail about his initial concept for Anakin Skywalker’s Padawan and howStar WarscreatorGeorge Lucashelped shape the beloved Jedi during his appearance on the3rd & Fairfax: The WGAW Podcast:
“One of the things in very early Clone Wars, especially with Ahsoka,our original version of it was quite serious,as tends to happen, and I don’t know why with Star Wars.It’s like… we loved it as children. It was so fun and uplifting, but now we’re older,and we have to make it serious.So, our original edit was a young girl thrust into a war.”
Filoni continued:
“She was trained as a peacekeeper,and boy is she out of her depth. This is death-defying and this is tension, butGeorge had a different take. He said, ‘This young girl has been trained as a Jedi Knight.She is not… the moments aren’t too big for her.She can handle it.You guys are taking this too seriously.You need to have more fun with this.’”

“Like, George and all his kids, Dave Filoni,I mean, honestly,when I say they feel like my family, they really feel like my family and have been for a very long time.When Filoni and I started working on Clone Wars,he never thought he’d be able to do live action.”
