Paul Rudd is “sliming” himself with excitement over his casting in Jason Reitman’s upcomingGhostbusters 3. In addition, the movie is now calledGhostbusters 2020. TheAvengers: Endgameactor made the announcement today via the officialGhostbusterssocial media accounts and he could not be happier. Reitman has been putting his sequel together over the last few months and fans of the franchise are starting to get excited about what the director is getting ready to do. The original cast has seemingly been confirmed and now Rudd is on board for a new role.
Ghostbusters 2020will featurePaul Ruddas a teacher. No further details have been made available, but it is believed he will be working at the school Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace’s characters attend. Story details are being kept under wraps, but Jason Reitman is extremely excited to have Rudd on board. He had this to say in a statement.
“I’ve been wanting to work with Paul Rudd since my short film opened forWet Hot American Summerat Sundance. I’m thrilled he’ll be joining this new chapter in theoriginal Ghostbusters universe.”
Paul Rudd also confirmed the news by standing outside of theGhostbusters firehouse in New York City. He starts the video by showing fans take pictures of the iconic building before revealing it’s Paul Rudd. He mentions “sliming” himself more than once and tells a humorous story, which may or may not be true, about his agent giving him a call aboutGhostbusters 2020. It’s exactly what you would expect from theAvengers: Endgameactor and his style of comedy. He seems like he will be the perfect fit for the franchise.
As for other cast members joiningGhostbusters 2020, bothSigourney Weaver and Annie Pottshave confirmed they will be in the long awaited sequel. Weaver also says the rest of the cast, including Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd, and Bill Murray will be in the movie too. As for the late Harold Ramis, he will be involved too. Jason Reitman recently revealed that he will be incorporating old and unused footage from the originalGhostbustersin the new movie, though he would not divulge how. The director has said he wants to make a love letter to the fans and it looks like he is keeping his promise.
Ghostbusters 2020is expected to begin shooting this summer. However, from what Paul Rudd was saying, he might not be starting his parts until the fall. Jason Reitman had hoped for a summer production start, but it may have all gotten pushed back a bit. With that being said, we should all get some news updates in the near future, now that we know further casting is being completed.
