Gina Caranomay have become known for appearing as Cara Dune in theStar WarsseriesThe Mandalorian, and subsequently being controversially fired from it, but before that she appeared in a long-forgotten revenge thriller,Daughter of the Wolf. Five years after its release, the film is now seeing a huge resurgence onFreevee, landing at number seven on the global chart. It seems that regardless of the actress' issues with Disney, she still has plenty of fans who are turning out to watch this movie from back when none of that was a problem.

Daughter of the Wolfis a Canadian action thriller telling the story of Clair Hamilton, an ex-military specialist played by Carano. Following the death of her father, Clair returns home to claim her inheritance. However, what she doesn’t bargain on is facing a harrowing ordeal when her son, Charlie, is kidnapped by a local gang led by a man known as “Father,” played by Richard Dreyfuss (who has himself become a controversial figure lately). As a cat-and-mouse game ensues, Clair must face the elements of the Alaskan wilderness and her son’s captors to bring him home.

Upon its release,Daughter of the Wolfdid not receive the type of reaction that you would want to write home about, drawing just a 25% Tomatometer score and 39% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes, with the same complaints that often haunt such action thrillers; tired tropes, drawn out plot, sub-par acting – all those things that don’t matter to audiences watching movies on free streaming platforms.

Gina Carano saw her career soar from being a mixed martial artist toStar Warsfavorite in a relatively short time. From her acting debut in Steven Soderbergh’sHaywirein 2011, she soon found herself brushing shoulders with some big franchises, including roles inFast & Furious 6in 2013, and as Angel Dust in 2016’sDeadpool.Daughter of the Wolfwas her first lead role, and in the same year she made her debut asCara Dune in the first season ofThe Mandalorian.

While it seemed that there was no stopping the actress’ accent, things changed very quickly in 2021, when Carano was let go from Lucasfilm and Disney following a series of controversial social media posts. These posts included comments viewed as politically inflammatory and insensitive, led to widespread condemnation, and ultimately proved to be too much for Disney. She is currently locked in a legal battle with the House of Mouse having claimed unfair dismissal, but so far, Disney has been resolute in its stance on the matter.
