This was also because Ramis wanted another actor for the role. It was revealed that Ramis wanted to have Tom Hanks or Michael Keaton for the part. It was the film’s writer Danny Rubin who suggested getting Murray for the lead role. However, Ramis wasn’t open to the idea since he thought a comedian wouldn’t perfectly fit the role. Ultimately, Murray landed the part and significantly impacted the film’s history.

The History of The Legendary Film Groundhog Day

Groundhog Dayis a romantic-comedy film that tells the tale of Phil Connors, a self-centered TV weatherman, who was trapped in a time loop and had to repeatedly relive Feb. 2. Upon realizing that there are no repercussions on his actions on that fateful day, he decided to manipulate certain incidences to his advantage. Connors has been selfish in repeating the same day over and over without thinking about the consequences of his actions to the people around him.

Although film producer Trevor Albert no longer remembers what exactly happened the day they found the script forGroundhog Day;he still has some vivid memories about it. Ramis and Albert have been going through hundreds of scripts since that time to find their next film project. Little did they know that they were about to make a film classic.

He further revealed, “I don’t remember much about what I was doing 30 years ago — or three years ago — but I remember sitting down and reading that script, and by the time I got to page 20, yelling to Harold, ‘I think I have a script you’re gonna want to read. And that’s how we found an unexpected gem.”
