Earlier tonight, Marvel Studios held its massiveComic-Conpanel in Hall H, where they revealed the first trailer forDoctor Strangeand new footage fromGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Unfortunately, the studio hasn’t released this footage online quite yet, but the scenes the cast and crew revealed not only confirmed thatSylvester Stalloneis in fact part of the cast, but also revealed who Star-Lord’s father is.

Deadlinereports that two clips were shown to fans, along with a trailer. At the end of the trailer revealed in Hall H,Kurt Russell’s mysterious character is seen coming out of a massive space pod. WhenChris Pratt’s Star-Lord asks who he is, this mystery character replies, “I thought my good looks would make it obvious. My name is Ego. And I’m your dad.” Many had speculated thatKurt Russellwould be playing Star-Lord’s dad, but no one thought that his dad would be Ego The Living Planet, portrayed in the comics as a massive planet. The footage revealed that Ego designed a human form for himself. This leads Drax to ask “Did you make a penis?” which mortifies Star-Lord. Ego responds by saying, “I sure did… it’s not bad either.”

This footage reveals that this sequel takes place just a few months after the first movie. One scene features Yondu (Michael Rooker) and Rocket (Bradley Cooper) escaping from a jail cell in what looks like a massive space station with the help of Baby Groot. The trailer also features plenty of scenes with all the main characters working together as a team.

Marvel Studios presidentKevin FeigeintroducedJames Gunnto the Comic-Con crowd, who called the Hall H crowd, “the petri dish whereGuardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2was born!” His speech was interrupted by The Ravagers, lead by Taserface (Chris Sullivan), who continually mocked the director and the stars as they were brought out onto the stage.Chris Pratt(Peter Quill),Zoe Saldana(Gamora),Dave Bautista(Drax),Karen Gillan(Nebula),Michael Rooker(Yondu) and new additionsKurt Russell(Ego),Pom Klementieff(Mantis) andElizabeth Debicki(Ayesha), who presented the first footage from the sequel.

The clips shown include a scene with Yondu and Rocket escaping from a jail cell, which includes a massive body count withYondutaking out characters left and right with his mystical weapon, the Yaka Arrow. The trailer revealed Rocket Raccoon hurling insults at several different characters along with the entire team bickering, before the footage revealedSylvester Stallone, although it wasn’t revealed who he is playing. Some believe that, judging by his outfit, he could be another Ravager but it isn’t known for sure, and this report from Deadline claims that he’s a Nova Corps member.

Marvel didn’t release any of this footage online after the panel, like they did with the newDoctor Strangetrailer earlier today, so we’ll have to wait and see if the studio plans on releasing these revealing scenes anytime soon. We still have just over nine months until this superhero sequel hits theaters, but to help tide you over until then, the studio did also reveal a new logo for this upcoming sequel, arriving in theaters June 02, 2025, which you can check out below. We’ll be sure to keep you posted with more on this superhero follow-up as soon as more details are revealed.
