While Academy Award winnerGwyneth Paltrowis mostly known for her roles in films likeSe7enandThe Royal Tenenbaums, a good number of her fans know her from her presence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Paltrow started in the MCU in 2008 with the franchise’s first film,Iron Man. Through the decades, the actor reprized her role several times, and Pepper Potts became another central character, playing a key role in theIron ManandAvengersfranchises. However, is seems Paltrow has no idea about how important she’s been in the world of Marvel, and was shocked to learn who many MCU movies she’s been in over the years.

TheShakespeare in Loveactor and owner of a wellness brand called “Goop” recently discussed her career with Vanity Fair. During the discussion, Paltrow looks back on several scenes from some of her most important roles, reflecting on the likes ofGlee,The Talented Mr. Ripley, and, of course, the MCU. Looking back atIron Man,and specifically the scene in whichPepper Potts helps Tony Starkmanipulate the reactor in his chest, Paltrow says, “It’s not a great wig, guys. Let’s face it,” before adding:

8 Characters the MCU Seems to Have Forgotten About

The MCU is packed with many exciting characters. Regrettably, a few notable characters have incomplete arcs.

“We had so much fun on this movie. It felt like an independent movie. Jon [Favreau], Robert [Downey Jr.] and I improvised all day every day. There was a lot of rewriting. We’d go to Jon’s trailer in the morning and the three of us would improv. It’s not typical to do that on a big-budget action movie. Jon was so brilliant and he wanted it to feel like it had a reality to it and that it was character-based.

“There was no pressure on us. Nobody thought it would turn into anything. The studio felt they had taken this big risk with Robert as a leading man and it probably won’t even be a hit. And then it came out and it changed the course of that studio.”

Vanity Fair then asks Paltrow if she ever imagined from her first experience that the film would become so big and that her character would end up appearing in seven movies. The actor looked a bit bewildered and replied with shock:

“That can’t be right. I can’t have been in seven. Is that true?”

“‘Brave New World’? What Is That?”

Gwyneth Paltrow isn’t as active today as she was years ago. Her last big film role was in 2019’sAvengers: Endgame, and in 2020, she made a docuseries for Netflix about her brand. However, she’s set to makeher return to Hollywood, starring opposite Timothée Chalamet in Josh Safdie’s A24 sports drama,Marty Supreme.

When asked about returning to the superhero franchise, Paltrow doesn’t sound too optimistic. Or even interested. Addressing her appearance in aSpider-Manmovie (she doesn’t say which), her lack of interest in the genre is pretty clear. “One time I didn’t realize I was inSpider-Man. I was like, doing a scene with Robert and Jon Favreau, so I thought it was a cameo. They’re like, ‘It’s another,’ and it turned out I was in Spider-Man, and I didn’t even realize,” she said. Asked if she thinks she’ll end up inBrave New World, the newCaptain Americamovie. Paltrow simply asks, “What is that?” before laughing and adding:

“Oh, no, I don’t think so. I think I would’ve known by now. I don’t know. They keep it all very top secret. They think they’re the CIA over there, like it’s national secrets. That’s why I didn’t know I was in Spider-Man. They never said. There were no signs that said Spider-Man. The script didn’t even say Spider-Man. It’s all a secret.”
