Harrison Fordthought he was just bringingIndiana Jones and the Dial of Destinyto Cannes on Thursday, but instead he found himself picking up an honorary Palme D’Or prior to the world premiere of his final outing as the adventuring Dr. Jones. Ford was given a grand ovation as his life in cinema flashed before his eyes, something the actor noted himself as he emotionally accepted the award.

After watching the montage of some of his past endeavours such asThe Fugitive, Working Girl, Blade Runnerand many more with a theme fromStar Warsplaying in the background, Ford told the audience:

Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones in The Dial of Destiny

“They say when you’re about to die you see your life flash before your eyes. And I just saw my life flash before my eyes. A great part of my life, but not all of my life. My life has been enabled by lovely wife, supporting my passion and my dreams, and I’m grateful. [To the audience] I love you too. You’ve given my life purpose and meaning and I’m grateful for that. So grateful to have the opportunity to work with others like Phoebe [Waller-Bridge] and Mads [Mikkelsen]. I am deeply moved by this honor, and humbled – but I got a movie you gotta see. So let me get out of the way.”

Of course that movie isIndiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and although the film is not set to arrive in theaters until the end of June, we can expect to see some kind of first mumbled reactions following this screening.

Will Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny Be A Fitting Finale For Ford?

Following the somewhatmixed reactions toIndiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, there is a lot riding on the fifth and final adventure of Harrison Ford’s iconic archeologist to bring back the same kind of feel that madeRaiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of DoomandThe Last Crusadesuch unforgettable pieces of cinema. For his part, James Mangold, taking the helm from Steven Spielberg, seems to have a good grasp on what the film needs to do to go out on a high. Despite some online trolls seeming to will Mangold to fail to live up to expectation, the director has been taking none of it. He previously said in response to complaints over some leaked set images:

“I understand wariness, I live it. I don’t know if I’ll make you happy. But my team & I will knock ourselves out trying to make something good. We admire the craft of the originals. I hope when you see real images, they’ll look better to you than paparazzi shots from bushes.”

In the last few weeks, the promotion of the movie has been rapidly increasing, with more details about the plot’s time travel elements, returning Nazis andan opening 25 minute sequencethat de-aged Ford back to hisRaidersdays, and it all seems to be heading to one of the biggest movies of the year. As one of a number of huge films arriving in cinemas this summer,Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destinywill arriving in cinemas on June 30.
