Horror icon and scream queen Heather Langenkamp is game to return for a newA Nightmare on Elm Streetmovie. The question is, can this happen? Even the actress has her doubts. Inevitably, we will get a new movie in this franchise at some point or another. And if Hollywood can find the right guy to crack the code, Lagencamap is down to make her return as Nancy.

This certainly isn’t the first time thatHeather Langenkamphas discussed a possible return to the beloved and iconic horror franchise. But it takes on new meaning right now. Horror is having a major moment in the mainstream and, given the success ofHalloweenlast year, something like this seems more possible than ever. Here’s what the actress had to say about it when asked about a possible return in a recent interview.

“I would really love to repriseNancyin a way, because I feel that there’s more of that story to be told, certainly. But I don’t know if there’s anyone out there who is as imaginative as Wes Craven, who could figure it out. I just don’t know. I don’t see enough great storylines that would incorporate Nancy in any universe. I just don’t know if that exists, but some brilliant person might be working on something. But I know the fans would love it so much, because I see them in these situations where they’re so enthusiastic.”

Indeed,Wes Craven is a horror masterthe likes of which we haven’t seen before or since. He’s not someone who can easily be replaced. Just look at what happened with the disastrous 2010 Elm Street reboot. Someone would need to come in with the right idea, in the right way, to truly make this work.

Heather Langenkamp first appeared in the originalA Nightmare on Elm Street. She then reprised the role inDream WarriorsandNew Nightmare, both of which are considered to be amongst the best entries in the entireFreddy Krueger franchise. So having her back for a new entry, perhaps mirroring what was done with Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode in last year’sHalloween, doesn’t seem like a bad idea at all. Speaking further, Langenkamp made it clear that fans have expressed to her it’s something they want to see.

“They’re such great fans that the horror genre just doesn’t seem to appreciate them enough. I constantly walk away with, these are people who have created a genre just out of pure love over the past 30 years. Their love of these movies has actually buoyed this genre in a way that no other genres, I think, can say that’s the reason why they’re so successful. And so, for their sake, I think, give them what they want. If this is what they want, they’re telling me they want it, then why wouldn’t you give people what they want?”

When last we heard, screenwriter David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick is still on board to pen another reboot. For now though, he’s busy writingAquaman 2. Freddy Krueger actor Robert Englund also hinted maybe, justmaybe, he would have one more movie in him. Can you imagine if we got one more movie with the original Nancy and Freddy? One can only dream.
