As you may well know by now,The Dark Toweris deep into production, with shooting recently shifting to New York City. We have already seen plenty of photos ofIdris ElbaasRoland Deschain, but today new photos have surfaced from the set, offering our first look atJackie Earle Haleyas Sayre. While we don’t know exactly where within the story this scene takes place, it’s clear both Sayre and The Gunslinger are locked in an intense stand-off.
The photos, which surfaced fromJust Jared, feature both Roland and Sayre entrenched in a gunfight, where, at one point, Sayre even rips off the door of a car to shield himself from The Gunslinger’s attack. A closer look at the photos reveal thatJackie Earle Haleyhas a number of dots on his face, hinting that his face could be altered with CGI in post-production, but we don’t know for sure. The scenes were shot last night in the Dumbo area of Brooklyn, New York.
InStephen King’sDark Towerbooks, Richard Sayre is a high-ranking “can-toi,” also known as The Low Men, who are humanoid creatures working for The Crimson King. In the books, he is always seen with a pool of blood on his forehead that never drips down onto his face, which could be what the CGI dots on his face are meant to represent. Sayre is also a member of the Somba Corporation in the novels, but, given the rumored changes being made in this adaptation, it isn’t clear how faithful this character will be to the source material.
Last week, set photossurfaced which featuredIdris Elbain possession of the Horn of Eld, which many fans speculate could mean that this movie isn’t exactly an adaptation of the original novels, but a sequel to them.Stephen Kinghas already confirmed that the movie will start out just as his firstDark Towerbook did, with Roland Deschain giving chase to The Man in Black. The author’s final novel ends as the first begins, with Roland chasingThe Man in Black(Matthew McConaughey), only this time he possesses the Horn of Eld, which had been missing for several years. We still haven’t gotten confirmation that this movie adaptation is in fact a sequel toThe Dark Towerbooks, but hopefully we’ll get confirmation soon.
