The first TV show to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe,Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.has managed to keep a loyal following, but for many, it isn’t quite at the level they want it to be. Despite how some feel about it, the show is going to be returning for a fourth season on ABC this fall and will be having a presence at San Diego Comic Con. As it turns out, we may be getting a prettybig revealabout the show during the convention next month.
A new photo that has surfaced courtesy ofMarvelshows a trolley in downtown San Diego that has been wrapped as a bit of promotion forSeason 4ofAgent’s of S.H.I.E.L.D.. Aside from showing off the show’s logo, it is absolutely covered in flames and features a fiery, glowing red and orange chain wrapped around it. As many Marvel fans will quickly point out, that likely means that anew characteris coming to the show next year.

Yes, it looks like Johnny Blaze, better known asGhost Rideris going to be making his way toAgent’s of S.H.I.E.L.D.. The wrap on the trolley is far from a definite confirmation, but the imagery is so spot on that it would be a pretty upsetting tease were it not a clue thatGhost Rideris going to be on the show next year. For years, the rights toGhost Riderwere not with Marvel Studios, but the company recently got the rights back and it looks like they are going to be putting them to use, perhaps much sooner than we may have thought.
Rumors have been floating around that afterThe Defendersminiseries on Netflix, the streaming service would be looking to expand their list ofMarvel showsand, one of the rumored properties they were looking at wasGhost Rider. If thisAgent’s of S.H.I.E.L.D.rumor turns out to be true, it is very unlikely that will wind up happening. But not necessarily impossible. It was recently announced thatAgent’s of S.H.I.E.L.D.would be moving to a later time slot to allow for some more adult and gritty storytelling. The addition ofGhost Riderwould certainly lend some credibility to that.
If it turns out that Johnny Blaze is going to be joining up, or perhaps fighting against, Agent Coulson and the gang next season, it would make sense to drop the announcement SDCC. If that is what they are planning, they will probably be bringing the actor who they have cast to playGhost Rideras well. Not to get anyone’s hopes up, butThe Walking DeadstarNorman Reedusdid recently express interest in playing the character in an interview with Uproxx.
“Hell yeah. It would be a blast. Do I get a skull face that’s on fire and all that stuff? Fuck yeah. I’m Down.”
Reedusis a pretty busy guy andAgent’s of S.H.I.E.L.D.requires a lot of filming time throughout the year, so it isn’t likely the scheduling would work out forReedus, but you never know. In any case, it looks like we may very well be seeing an attempted redemption for the character after the two Nicolas CageGhost Ridermovies that were both pretty bad, butSpirit of Vengeancewas specifically atrocious, by most accounts. We will probably have to wait until next month during SDCC to find out for sure, but don’t be surprised to hear thatGhost Rideris coming toS.H.I.E.L.D.next season.
