Last month, LucasFilm presidentKathleen Kennedyconfirmed that a newIndiana Jonesmovie will be happening at Disney, although she wouldn’t give a specific timeline as to when a sequel may actually go into production, or arrive in theaters. Disney acquired the rights to the franchise from Paramount Pictures back in December 2013, but we haven’t heard anything definitive aboutIndiana Jones 5since then. Today we have an unconfirmed report fromAICNthat claimsDisney and Lucasfilmare penciling in a fourth-quarter 2018 release date forIndiana Jones 5.

However,Frank Marshallrevealed in a separate interview that there have been “no discussions to date” regarding the sequel’s release date, or the rumors thatChris Prattwas taking over the franchise. There had been speculation about the actor replacingHarrison Fordforseveral months, now, but he denied rumors that he was being considered for the iconic role, since he has already committed to making several more sequels for Marvel’sGuardians of the Galaxy. When the rumors aboutChris Prattwere swirling, it wasn’t known if he was being eyed to play the new Indy, or just a new character alongsideHarrison Ford, butSteven Spielberghimself even endorsed the idea of aChris Pratt-lead reboot, which he said he would direct if the script was good enough.

Steven Spielbergdirected all four movies in the franchise, starting with 1981’sRaiders of the Lost Ark, 1984’sIndiana Jones & the Temple of Doom, 1989’sIndiana Jones & the Last Crusadeand 2008’sIndiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Even if this rumor does turn out to be true, it will likely be quite a long time before we hear any confirmation about who is writing, directing, or starring inIndiana Jones 5. Do you thinkChris Prattshould play the rebooted Indy, making a case that he should star in every franchise from now until the end of time? Or would you rather seeHarrison Fordcome back for one last adventure as the original Indiana Jones?
