Yesterday, a report surfaced that revealed a few of the actors and actresses being considered for key roles in Warner Bros.‘Justice League Dark. While nothing is set in stone yet,Colin Farrellis reportedly being eyed to play John Constantine, along withEwan McGregor, whileMonica Bellucciis the top choice to play Madame Xanadu andRon Perlmanis being eyed to play Swamp Thing. Today we have yet another casting rumor from Heroic Hollywood, which claims thatBen Mendelsohn(Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) is being eyed for the main villain role, Anton Arcane. While it doesn’t seem that an official offer has been made, the actor’s involvement may hinge on one key factor.
The actor will reportedly consider taking on the role, but that will depend on who Warner Bros. chooses to directJustice League Dark.Guillermo del Torowrote the script and he was attached to direct for quite some time, before he ended updropping outas director. The filmmaker is still attached to produce, alongsideScott Rudin, who came aboard last month in hopes of getting the project ready to shoot sometime next year.
In theDC Comics, Anton Arcane was the primary nemesis of Swamp Thing. The character, created byLen Weinand Bernie Wrightson, appeared in the first Swamp Thing comic back in 1972. This villain was obsessed with becoming immortal, which lead to him creating monstrous characters such as the Un-Men, and he was able to resurrect his brother Gregori from the dead, turning him into The Patchwork Man. He also possesses a genius-level intellect and the power of necromancy, which allows him to resurrect the dead.
Anton Arcane has previously been played on the big screen by Louis Jourdan in directorWes Craven’s 1982 feature Swamp Thing, a role he reprised in the 1989 sequel The Return of Swamp Thing. No details have been given on how Anton Arcane may fit into this newsuperheroadaptation, but hopefully we’ll here more soon as the cast starts to come together. Other characters believed to be included inJustice League Darkinclude Deadman, Shade, Zatanna and Etrigan the Demon.
